Kind of OT: Birth Control

Ouch.....that sounds like you went through hell for that one.

I think when my girls had it done they just shot the dye up to make sure it didn't go through, so it was only done once and was much less invasive than what you went through.

Yeah, it was supposed to be in and out, a one shot deal.  For whatever reason, that darn balloon, that was placed for dilation, kept coming out.  Grrrr....they eventually went the "old fashioned" route with the old "platypus" looking torture device and what not.  The doc doing it kept apologizing.  Oh and I was only given Ibuprofen to take, which I didn't take but in hindsight wished I would've.  By the way, pain was gone as soon as things were done.  And I was fine....and it was worth every bit of pain because it was one step closer to figuring out why I wasn't getting pregnant and one step closer to getting DUB!  So, as bad as it was, I'd do it again to get another Dub!

Hey Brenda - would your hubby consider doing a vasectomy?  It's a lot easier for men.  Mine did his laser surgery and went home the same day.

Just a thought.

That's what my PCP suggested.  I'm sure he would do it, but here's the deal on that:

DH is only 31 years old.  While I plan on being married forever, I have been divorced once, so I know things happen that you don't plan on.  I am absolutely done having kids-no matter what!

He doesn't have any kids of his own, and I wouldn't want to take that possibility away from him should anything ever happen.

This is actually a touchy subject with us because he got kind of offended when I said that.  But like I said, you just never know what's going to happen in life, so you should keep your options open.

He's the romantic; I'm the realist :)

I can totally understand where you are coming from on the subject.  Things happen that you would never expect in life.  I did have an ablation done over 3 years ago because of really bad periods.  But they told me it was not a form of birth control.  It would make it very difficult to get pregnant and that most likely not a viable pregnancy.  I tried BC and with in 3 weeks put on 20 lbs!!!!!  So I had to get off that ASAP!!!  A friend of mind did get the shot and she put on a lot of weight.  I don't blame you for not wanting the hormones - I'm crazy enough as it is with my own hormones to deal with!!!  Wish you luck!!!

My OB just recommended the Essure procedure.  It involves putting an insert into the fallopian tubes. It is non-invasive, no cutting, no anesthesia, no hormones, and generally covered by insurance. If your Dr doesn't perform the procedure, feel free to contact me.  He is in Novi and a wonderful Dr.  Good luck with your decision.

I can sympathize about the depo and weight gain I had that shot one time and I put 100 pounds on and it threw my system all out of wack so don't do that.  I did get a tubal ligation and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!  Going under anesthesia is always scary but in the long run it is better than gaining weight from the pill and better than taking depo for sure.  anyway I would weigh out my decision on what you feel is best for you..

I still am trying to lose that 100 pounds I put on from depo so I am not a Strong advocate of that at all.

or just wait a while till you have the tubal ligation before you go off the BC.
this is not by any means telling you what to do just Ideas and my experience...
Good luck
your friend always
