Kind of OT: Birth Control

So, it's time for me to say goodbye to my birth control pills.  I have been on them for a LOOOOONG time, and suspect they may be playing a part in this weight that just won't go away.

I am contemplating tubaligation, but kind of worried about going under anesthesia.  I had my TT in 2/09 and my revision last month.  Could that be too many surgeries?

I understand this is a personal subject that a lot of people don't want to talk about.  If you have no shame, like me, feel free to chime in with the pros/cons of your personal method.

PS-I don't need any childish jokes, either.  Those of you that would make them know who you are!!! LOL

Bren,

Only you can answer that question.  But if you did okay coming out of the anesthesia the last two times, I would trust that you will be fine to get another surgery.  Just try to rest your body for a bit longer after this last surgery, can you wait 6 months and just use prophylactics?

I had anesthesia for exploritory surgery, a month later I had a hysterectomy, six months later, I had rny and a yr later had my TT.  so you tell me, lol!

I agree with Bee.  As long as you did ok with anesthesia for the other surgeries, I would think having another would be ok.  I think resting your body for a bit is a good suggestion, too.

Do they keep you overnight for a tubal?  When I had to have my one fallopian tube removed, I was sent home the same day.  Do they do the surgery lap?  Just curious.

Why don't you get the shot Depo something  it is good for 3 months then see how you feel about the Tubal.

I had more pain from my Tubal than I did from RNY.

But the depo shot will give you some time to heal since your Revision.

I wanted to discontinue the hormone type of BC all together.

I have heard that the Depo shot can cause weight gain just like the pill.

Hopefully the tubal won't be as painful as my revision was.....that was killer!

I had a tubal and my gallbladder removed during the same operation.  Both were done laprascopically - and I could have gone back to work after a few days I felt so great.  The Dr made me take 2 weeks off.

By the time you get an appt with your Dr., get scheduled for it and have it done, it could still be a couple of months away.  Do it when you feel good about undergoing another surgery.  Honestly - it was one of the easiest I've had.

tubal was not that bad

but I had very minimal if any pain form RnY.

Tubal was out patient and I was home the same day. Not a big deal.

I've been on Depo Provera for over 13 years for my endrometrosis.  Know what my doctor said (and that was BEFORE my WLS)?  Stop bending your elbow so much (constantly putting food in my mouth).

I was 15 pounds from goal when I stopped losing weight and six months later I was regaining it.  Why?  Not following what I should have been doing.  I couldn't blame it on the shot!

Sounds like you need to get back to basics.  Try this:

Remember that tight feeling you had when you first were post-op?  You get that back.  I've been on on twice this year and lost 10 lbs!  I am determined to get back on track.

As for the depo provera, I love it!  Don't have to worry about a period (although you might experience breakthrough bleeding/spotting) the first three months.  It's great not having to worry if I took a pill or not.

OMG you are not seriously coming to my thread about birth control and telling me to "get back to basics"?

HOW DARE YOU????????????????

You don't know anything about me or about what my weight gain or medical issues are.  I didn't ask for diet advice, I specifically had a question about birth control, and NON HORMONAL METHODS.

Try reading the gist of the post before responding.  I don't appreciate unwarranted advice, so unless you have something helpful to add about contraception, which it seems you don't, then please keep it to yourself.

BTW-Depo has the same, if not more, reported side effects as oral contraceptives-including rapid weight gain and the inability to lose weight.

It is sad that you had to flame me like that.
