Bone Density

Today I met with my new doctor here in TC.  Her name is Gail Gwizdala, and I think she's wonderful.  We talked and talked and talked.  She took so much time with me.  She does have some experience with WLS people and is open to learn new things.  She's really a down to earth person, and I think I'd like her for a friend!  Won't happen, but she's that type of lady.  They were even able to do my bone density test right then and there in the office.  Just got a call that it has been read and my density is normal.  YAY.  She was really impressed at my progress in such a short time since surgery.  We discussed my meds and decided to leave them as is for now, until she sees me again in May or so.  My next visit is with a new GYN in a couple of weeks.  I hope I like her as well.
It's really hard picking a new doctor, but I did get several referrals.
Life is good.  Snow flurries right now, but no real accumulation is expected.

So glad you found someone you like!

It's pretty impressive that they did the BDT today.  You know how it is down here....you have to wait two months for an opening.

No kidding.  Plus I got the results all in one day.  It's amazing up here!

Glad you found a doctor you love - that's so rare and wonderful.  I also had my bone density scan yesterday.  I expect to hear results early  next week.  They gave me a CD of my images - haven't looked at them yet, but apparently I have pics of my spine now.  Fun!

I didn't get any pictures of mine, but at least I got the results in a timely manner.  I was shocked.  Now I just have to go back the end of the month for my A1C test.  They said anytime I'm in the area, just stop by.  The lab has the order for every three months to do the A1C.  I noticed that my sugar levels are going back up again, I think it's because I'm eating more carbs. (over 100 gms per day)  I'm not sure how many I'm supposed to be staying under, but I'm sure it's under 100, right?

Well I looked at my pictures last night.  Seems that the computer-generated diagnosis and results are right in there too.  I'll wait for the doctor's call though - I expect to hear something Monday or Tuesday.

Carbs --- no, it's not necessarily true that you have to keep carbs under 100g/day.  It depends on how much you're eating overall and what kind of carbs you're eating.  My goal all along has been to keep my carbs at about 35-40% of my total calorie intake and to get those carbs from fruits, veggies, dairy, beans and whole grains (no white stuff). So on my current 1400 calories that equals about 150g carbs.

But also remember that the 100g target is the estimated number that your body needs for  proper function.  The brain alone needs 40g and several of our other organs can only function properly with carbs as energy.  So we for sure don't want to go below 40g/day, but up to 100g and your body is perfectly happy.

Thanks for the heads up on the carbs.  I thought I was going overboard.  I do have some white carbs on occasion, but mostly I get them from fruits and dairy, so I should be good.

Hope your bone density results were good too.  I'm very happy with my new found health!

They weren't good.  But I'm going to wait to talk to the doctor before I worry.

Wonderful on your results...My first bone density was good...5 yrs ago...I justhad one and I am in what they call Osteopenia...preliminary osteoporosis. So I will se my PCP on Thurs after I get the results for my breast biopsy and we are going to schedule the once a year Reclas IV for the bone loss. I have thinning of the hips. I asked him if my hips were thinning why was my butt so wide.

He also took blood so I will get all of theother results on Thurs. too. Its a good thing I love my docs...I am sick of seeing docs.
