How long before returning to a job?

Hi everyone,
Just a question for you:
I am in the process of looking for work, and I  have a resume sent in for part time work as a office manager.  I just was wondering how long after surgery would I need to be off work?   I haven't gotten a call yet, but I just thought that is something I should be aware of to tell them IF I get called about the job.

Thanks everyone,
God Bless,
Tari

Hey Tari praying you get the job. I am a medical biller/office manager and went back to work a week and 1/2 after my surgery. I sit a lot and doc said it was fine, I was going stir crazy in the house. Everyone is different, but I would give it at least a week.

May God bless you and keep you

Hi Tari,

I went back to work after three weeks.  Actually, I took 2 weeks off and worked from home during that third week.  I sit at a desk all day so it wasn't bad at all.  I was ready to go back to work.

The first week you'll be beat... like you ran a marathon and all you want to do is sleep and recover.  Amazingly the second week you will feel a lot better and stronger, but still very tired and may need naps every day.  The third week you feel like nothing happened and you're almost back to normal.... but still you'll get tired easily.

So you could, in theory, go back the third week after surgery (being off a full 2 weeks).  Part time office work might be easier to go back to in a shorter timeframe.  I personally took 5 weeks off and was still beat that first week I was back to work.  Even though I work an office job I still have 12 hour days because of my 3-hour daily commute.

The other thing to consider is the eating.  Everyone is different and you just don't know if you'll have an easy time of it or a hard time.   I wanted as much time as possible to adjust to my new way of eating and to make sure I could eat meals away from home without getting sick.  Plus.... I had the time coming to me and I'd been hording my vacation time for over a year and I really wanted some downtime... so I took as much time as I could.

Good to see you posting.

I had my surgery in the summer.  I was ready to go back to work after 2 weeks but I took 4.  It was like a mini vacation.  Mine was an open surgery so even at that 2 weeks was plenty.

Good luck getting the job.

I was only off for one week.  I was supposed to be off for 6 and not drive for 2 but I couldn't take it sitting around the house all day so I had a friend pick me up and take me to work for the one week.  I had a desk job and just made sure I got up and walked around the building frequently.  I had an office so on my lunch hour I would shut the door and close my eyes to rest, it worked really great.  I wouldn't recommend it for everybody but it worked for me !

Thanks everyone for replying (sorry I haven't replied till now, been away from puter all weekend)!!
So, I'm most likely going to tell them I will need two weeks off after surgery it looks like.

HI EDIE!!!  Thanks for stopping bye and shouting out a hi to me!!  Means alot to me........

I haven't gotten a call about the job yet.  I was really hoping I would have by now.  It was so perfect for me being part time and being an office job!!  I will keep looking.

OK, here's another question for you all!!
When would I tell them about needing those 2 weeks off for surgery?  When they call me to come in for an interview or wait till I actually get there and sit down with someone for the interview?  I don't know if I should tell them when I get called to come in or when I actually go in.

Trying to be prepared before I get called for job!!
Thank you all,

Oh, today is the 20th!!  That is when I was told by the insurance people that I would know if I was approved or not!!  LOL  It's a Sunday!!  ARGGGGG      Hopefully I will hear tomorrow, right?  They will have had the 60 days they said it usually takes!!    I'm saying a BIG prayer I hear tomorrow!!

God Bless,
