Good Morning everyone!

I'm drinking regular coffee with a scoop of vanilla protein powder and a splash of  Caramel SF syrup.

QOTD:  New Year's goals and what am I doing differently?  I have to agree with you Deb, I tend to stress about things that are out of my control.  "Freak out about things" as my kids would call it :-)  I have a big year coming up with 2 kids graduating from high school, 2 kids having surgery, I'll be getting married.  I am going to make it my goal to not 'freak out' about things and just take a deep breath and relax.

WLS related, I would like to reach my ideal goal 21.6 more pounds to go by my one year surgery anniversayr of March 9, 2010.

Have a great day everyone!
Nan

I understand the two graduating.

I just wondered why are the other two having surgery? Feel free to tell me it is non of my business if you want. but your post just made me wonder what that was about.

my nosy gene just kicked in.

Mary - no worries about being curious, I have a nosey gene in me too - LOL :-)

My daughter is hoping to have bariatric surgery in April.  She has struggled with her weight since high school.  My fiance's daughter had surgery a year ago and I had my surgery last March.  She was never interested in having surgery (I think maybe she was, just wouldn't admit it).  Anyways, November she started the process of the insurance approval.  She meets the requirements, she just has to go through Aetna's 3 month Multidisciplinary program like I did to get approved.  I'm crossing my fingers her approval goes smoothly so we can schedule her surgery in between her Winter and Spring term classes.  I am so happy she has decided to have surgery!

The other surgery is my son who has to have jaw surgery in June.  He has braces right now and he has an under bite.  The orthodontist said he could straighten his teeth, but could only correct his bite with surgery.  So we went to an oral surgeon and they are planning to do surgery in June and then he'll have to have his mouth wired shut for 3-4 weeks!!  He also has been going to our PCP to document his 'physician supervised diet' because he wants bariatric surgery so bad.  He's been documenting since last June, the problem is my insurance (and at Hurley) you have to be 18 years of age.  He turns 18 in February, so we may be having 3 surgeries next year if the bariatric surgery is approved and can be worked around his jaw surgery.  We've talked about how having his jaw wired shut he'll lose weight on his own by having to eat through straws.  I hope he can do both surgeries next summer because he has wanted bariatric surgery for a long time now and it breaks my heart seeing him struggle with his weight so much at a young age.

Anyways, thanks for asking Mary....I guess I got kind of long winded answering you back !

Good morning!  Finished my protein coffee and getting ready to move on to some crystal lite.

QOTD:  I have had a lot of life changes this past year - for the upcoming year, I'm not sure what is in store for me.  Sometimes I don't feel like I really have control over what is going to happen - so I just  "go with the flow".

So I guess my New Years resolution will be to take back control of my life again.   Do what I want to do - not what others think I should do - I want to be happy!!!

Hey Deb and everyone.
Monday was a great day.  The kids asked me to come home (to their house) and help with the baby.  Yay.  I went to my christmas party with the girls I play cards with and came home a winner (I won 75 cents this month)  We had a great time.
So sorry to hear about your outbreak of Shingles.  My FIL was hospitalized when he had his outbreak.  They went all around his waist.  Such pain he was in.  Hope your's subsides quickly.
We all overslept this morning.  The kids had a Dr. appt with Josh at 9:30 but he let us all go back to sleep until 8:55.  Mad dash...I got Josh ready while Jay and Jess got themselfs up and dressed and somewhat cleaned up.  They were out the door in about 15-20 minutes, but still were going to be late.  Now they'll realize when you've got a baby to take with you it takes a lot longer usually.  :)
QOTD:  I don't usually make resolutions.  I'm going to try my best to stay on program, which is becoming harder and harder as I find I can eat most anything now.  I haven't tried cookies or candy yet...and I say yet, because I'm so afraid that that time isn't far off.  Last night I had one fork of homemade banana cream pie and it was absolutely delicious.  I've had no trouble with sugars or starches of any kind.  It's scarey.  The only thing different after WLS is the amount that I can eat.  Luckly that is still somewhat limited.
Hope you all have a great Tuesday!

Jan,
while you may not have any problems with sugar or starches right now, you may find out down the road that you do.  I never dumped until I was 18 months out.  Seriously, it wasn't like I tried to dump.  I was like you, I would have a bite of this or that, with no problems.  Then one foolish day, thinking I would be fine and not dump, I ate a POP TART (of all things I could've grabbed easily for breakfast as I was running late that morning...but hey, live and learn).  OMG....I was on my way to work and the last 10 minutes of my drive I thought I was going to die.  Seriously.  I got to work and had to lay down on the couch in the principal's office for about 30 minutes.  It was awful.  I didn't eat any sugar for MONTHS after that.  I know my limits now and know that I can enjoy a few bites of this or that without issue.  Some things, though bother me way more than others.  At first, I was disappointed that I didn't dump, but now I'm glad that I do dump, because the knowledge of dumping does help keep me inline.

That's exactly what I'm hoping.  I ate a couple of christmas cookies the other night (after I didn't get sick at cards) and 15 minutes later I didn't feel very well, but no dumping or barfing went on.  I'm just going to have to use self control....where ever do I find that???

Good morning all!

Finished the chai tea and coffee already this morning.  Having a protein bar for breakfast because I forgot my yogurt.

Deb - sorry to hear about the shingles.  I had them when I was a kid (4th grade, I think) and remember how miserable I was.  Hope you feel better soon!

QOTD -- I actually just wrote a blog post yesterday about my 9 Goals for 2009 and recapped how I did on each of them.  I'm not going to do the 10 Goals for 2010 thing... instead I'm going to just do one thing.  Either it'll be one goal for the year or I'll do the One Single Word thing.  Haven't decided yet.

Have a good day all!
