RNY on 10/21/08 with
Having my usual protein coffee.

I have found since having my RNY, that I haven't gotten a cold - and I contribute that to my diligence in my vitamins (don't know what else to blame it on!)  Before surgery - I wasn't sick a lot, but did catch the office cold, the flu on occasion, etc.  Maybe my time is coming.....

I need to start taking better care of my emotional well being.  Lots of turbulence this time of year - with the shorter days, first holiday since I've been divorced, family lives downstate, etc.  I know I have control over it and am trying to decide what I'm going to do about it.

Good morning!

Merry Christmas!  Today is my first official family Christmas celebration (my dad's side of the family).  Except all along I was thinking it was next Sunday... so I've been scrambling to figure out a dish to pass and get gifts bought and wrapped!  Leaving here in a few hours but I've got squash in the oven and cool whip thawing for pumpkin fluff.

BRENDA --- you butt dialed me yesterday!  LOL  Thanks for the giggle.

QOTD -- This coming week (including today) I have 4 different Christmas parties and a cookie exchange.  Yikes!  But the plan is to just roll with it.  I'll work hard to stay on track for all my normal meals, but then when I have a Christmas meal I'll be a bit more lax.  Still making good choices, but for those single meals I'll eat what I want but still try to focus on protein first and limit the sweets.

I guess my philosophy about holiday celebrations might be different than many WLS folks.  I'm not on a diet.  This is my real life.  I'm a normal healthy person.  And normal people eat and indulge a bit on holidays.  Because I'm a "healthy" person I'll do my best not to overindulge, but I'm not going to be that person at Christmas dinner who is "on a diet" and won't eat for fear of gaining an extra ounce or two.   The size of my pouch keeps my portions under control, so I've got a good tool to work with.

Good Morning all!
Pam-I am an infamous butt dialer.  I'm sorry!!  And I apologize for anyone I may butt dial in the future.  One night I was groping for my phone to see what time it was and ended up dialing Tina.  Luckily the call didn't go through.

Has anyone had a problem with the powdered milk not dissolving in Pam's cider drink?  The protein isn't clumping, but I get these little pellets of the milk.

Today is going to be spent cleaning the house and wrapping presents.  I have been shopping for two months and throwing everything in my closet.  It's time to organize that pile!

QOTD-I don't really have a problem with Christmas being any different than usual.  I don't make Christmas cookies, we don't really go many places, and no one I know bakes stuff so I am not around a lot of food.

PS-We're all feeling better.  Thanks for the well wishes!

I forgot to mention this earlier.

Have you seen the infomercial for the Ninja mixer/blender?  I got one yesterday ($49.99 + 20% off coupon from BBB).  It is awesome.  I made the following drink that seriously did not taste like protein one bit.   It was slushy and kind of creamy and great.

1 scoop vanilla protein powder
2 TBS crushed pineapple in it's own juice
1 TBS juice from the can of pineapple
5 frozen strawberries
1 packet Splenda
2 TBS Torani sugar free coconut syrup
Not quite 1 cup of ice

Blend it up and put in an umbrella!!  YUM!

Good morning!  Dub is feeling better today, but still a little under the weather.  He only had one night of croupiness, so that's a relief, so far.  I realized yesterday, as he was pretty silent because his throat is sore and he's hoarse, how much "noise" he makes.  I really missed all little giggles, "talking" and laughs.  They are coming back today, though.  We stopped at my inlaws last night, after my brother's house.  He was SO happy to see my inlaws.  I love his reaction to seeing his grandparents.  I'm so happy because with my dad gone and my mom living in TN and with her dementia, he won't have that closeness with grandparents on my side of the family.

QOTD:  I TOTALLY agree with what Pam T. said about eating like a "normal" person at the holidays.  "Normal" people indulge.  It's true.  I've seen them do it.  So, I'll have the things I want.  I won't OVERINDULGE (at least try not to).  I'll have what I like, within reason....the joy of a "pouch".  Besides, my husband's aunts CAN COOK!!  Everyone looks forward to family dinners at their houses!

Hello All,

Today is the house cleaning and wrapping day for me (still have shopping to do tomorrow for DH).

Having my Protein hot cocoa, luv it.

Yesterday, as some of you know, we went to the Veteran's hospital and served vets a Holiday meal and they all received gifts (shirts, blankets, mittens, hats, socks, etc)  It was a wonderful day, they would thank us for the food and I felt they didn't need to thank us, I said "No, Thank YOU, for what you did for US !   They were a great bunch of men and women, young, old, and inbetween,  over 300 of them.  Rolling Thunder does this 4 times a year, I am glad it isn't only at Christmas time because a lot of people only remember them and others (such as those in nursing homes) in December and there is a whole rest of year that they are there !

Have a wonderful rest of day!
