Thanksgiving dinner was a bust for me!

So this year for Turkey Day, it was just my immediate family (hubby and 2 kids) and they are the world's pickiest eaters so the menu was pretty plain. Turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, corn, olives and I made a sweet potato for me. I didn't even stuff the turkey this year because Im the only one that would have eaten it without my family being here. So we all sit down to eat and I had 3 SMALL bites of turkey and 2 SMALL bites of mashed potatoes. Then the LUMP in my chest that wouldn't go away. This has never happened before. Sat there for a few and off to the bathroom I ran. NOT a pleasant experience. My first time vomiting since my surgery. All of it came back up and of course I was done with dinner after that! In hindsight I think I may have not chewed well enough and ate it too fast. BIG MISTAKE!! Later on that night I did eat about 1 oz of turkey cut in tiny portions and that went down good. So unfortunately my big learning experience just had to be on Thanksgiving Day!! lol  But I am excited because I was down 1.6 pounds this morning. I was getting frustrated because I've stayed at the exact same weight for 5 days in a row! Ugh! Just wanted to share my awful first experience! Time for a nap after the crazy black friday shopping I just did!!

I have more problems with Turkey and Chicken breast getting stuck than anything else, except mushrooms.   I think for me it is because it is so dry.  I can eat dark meat and not have a problem at all.

Just a FYI, for some reason it doesn't come back up right away, I heard that Adolf's meat tenderizer mixed with water helps break it down so it can pass.  I personally chew on 2-4 papaya enzyme tablets. They just taste better.     It should go away in under a half hour.

pineapple chuncks help to braek down the protein when it is stuck too.

even this far out sometimes chicken turkey or fish can do that to me.....and i cant really predict texture or mositure wise when it will happen....but i have to keep watch still!  drinking warm water sometimes will help you vomit to dislodge it.........not very pleasant that is for sure.  I actually was not able to eat fow; for at least 6 mos following surgery..........glad you got thru it......

I do not think it matters how far out we are, I am 7 yrs out and I still get stuff stuck. Something today might not do it tomorrow....I just never know....I am having trouble the last few days getting my hypoglycemia in check...I have been feeling lousy....YUCK!

My surgery was in November and I had a tiny plate of food and it lasted 3 days!! It was my first real food after surgery.  Even after 5 yrs I still only get a few bites and am full....its so worth it tho!!!

I know the lump!  Not pleasant.  I too will use the papaya enzyme tablets.  They work well.  As long as I eat something jucy with the turkey I'm ok (like homemade cranberry sauce w/splenda)  I find I will occasionally still eat too fast and get the lump.  As long as I stop eating immediately, I won't barf.  I actually feel much better after getting rid of the stuck food.  Not something I'd want to do on a regular basis tho.  Four months out and I'm still learning.
Good luck in the future.

Yep.  As good as fish and fowl are for us, both can be tricky.  My first terrible experience was with canned peas, so don't be surprised at anything that happens post WLS.  Glad your episode didn't ruin your day.
