St. John Oakland
If anyone has a review of their experience there, I would love to hear it.
I've always gone to U of M for everything, so this is going to be new for me.
Some of the things I'm wondering about:
Do they let someone stay in your room with you?
How strict are they with visiting hours?
Did you wake up with any strange tubes sticking out of you?
Do you have to pay for phone or TV service?
Any input would be appreciated!
I just had my surgery there on 11/11.
I was in a private room. My friend had surgery there too and was in a semi-private room but nobody was in the other bed. After surgery I was so in and out of it that I actually wanted my husband to leave (why make him sit there and watch me sleep). If your coming a long distance you could always talk to the coordinator at your doctors office and ask that they request you a semi and inform them that you need someone to stay with you.
They told me visiting hours were until 8pm but that they are very flexible as long as you and your visitors aren't loud and causing a disturbance.
I did wake up with a drain tube but figured that would happen since I also had drains placed when I had 2 previous c-sections. Honestly with as much fluid as that drain was collecting I'm glad I had one (who would want all that fluid inside of there belly???).
I did not have to pay for the phone and TV because I work for one of the other St John Hospitals. I believe it is $10 a day for phone & TV. Honestly i was only there just over 24 hours and my first day I was so exhausted I didn't use either. I personally got tired very easily from just a little bit of walking. Even walking to the bathroom!
I had a very good experience at St John Oakland. My nurses and pct's were very nice and made themselves available to me anytime I called. The transporters, dietary staff, and everyone in radiology were also very nice!

I'm trying the breathing thing, but it's not working.
I can't stand the drains, and this might just be a deal breaker for me. I don't think I can handle it again.
Plus, I'm freaking out about being in a hospital so far from home that I don't know anything about.
I have my nut appointment out there on Dec. 7, I guess I need to make my appointment by then.

I had surgery on Wednesday and had my follow up appointment scheduled for not the coming Friday but the following one. On Monday I called the office cause I thought it was infected. I went in the next day, Tuesday and they removed it. It's all up to your doctor how long it will stay. Don't worry it's not that bad!
