What did you pay for your Lap Band?

I am looking into having the Lap Band procedure which I do not have insurance for. I am wondering what other self payers paid and which doctors and hospitals involved. I can only find online Great Lakes for like $ 10500. I would like an idea of others. I guess not having insurance leaves you open to choices you would not have if you had insurance. I am looking in the Southeastern Michigan area.

My friend went to DMC (Dr. Gaszyerli (sp))  I think she paid $16,000 three years ago.  He's got an office in Troy and maybe Livonia?  Jump in here Just Judy...she had him too.  Hope you've researched the lap band well before you put out all that cash.

I had Dr. Gazayerli and recommend him highly. He is banded and knows what we go through.  My insurance paid for the band, but I pay $100 per fill, so that can get pricey.  He operates out of Harper and I know they have deals, but don't know exactly what it costs. i know they have an advertisement somewhere on the lap band forum.

Hi.  We charge $12000 for Lapband, including all fills for 2 years... but I have more or less stopped doing Lapband, as failure rate is so high and patient satisfaction so low.  You should consider the VSG.  Weight loss is more reliable and most patients love it.  Go to lapbandtalk and look at the complications forum just to see what kind of problems band patients have.  My practice is now almost totally VSG, with a few RNYs.  Our package price is $11,200 for VSG.

Hi. My insurance covered my lap-band back in 2002 and thankfully they are covering the removal of my band next month.  I liked my band.  I didn't lose more than 50 pounds but I didn't gain.  The main reason I'm having it removed is due to complications 7 years out.  

Just be sure to ask:

How much will it cost to have it removed?
