I am on the 4th day of liquid diet.  Ugh I am not enjoying the shakes all that well and fighting the desire for food.  I am nervous about the surgery now.  The pain aspect.  I never had a nasogastric bube before.  For me the side drain is painful when it comes out.  So I am giving myself some anxiety thinkin about it so if someone could honestly tell me this is the hardest part.  Well it might calm my thoughts.  I only have to go to work 3 more days before i am off for Thanksgiving and surgery on the 1st.  So that will help since I feel like I have no energy.  I have volunteered to cook dinner since it is to stressful for my mom at her age.  I am hoping it wont bother me because i will be at day 10 of the liquids.  Help me Lord get through this!

For me I just had to keep reminding myself that the suffering or trouble I have now is all for a very good cause.  It's for the best for me in the long run.  It's hard to say if it will get easier for you or not.  It did for me but everyone is different.  I actually wrote a list of the good things that would come out of this and kept it with me, in my purse, I had one at work on my desk and one at home on my desk.  Whenever I started to freak out and struggle with it all I looked at that list and remember why I was doing this.
Good luck and remember....you're never alone.

Just try to remember that while this is hard, RIGHT NOW.....IT'S TEMPORARY!   The tubes are temporary.  The pain is temporary.  All means to an end.  The weight loss and all the benefits from it are NOT temporary!!    Good luck!!!  I had Dr. Farhan, too.  Loved him, although I hardly saw him!  LOL!

The liquid diet is pretty nasty and hard, but worth every minute of it.  I didn't find the pain to be that bad, and my doctor didn't leave any drain(s) in me so if you're sure you'll have one, don't worry, it's only temporary.
You're a brave gal to cook Thanksgiving dinner, although, when I cook a huge dinner I usually don't want to eat any of it because I'm tired of looking at it all day.
YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS!  ;)

Hello,

I also had Dr Farhan. I will be 100 Percent honest with you . The tube in our nose is NO BIG THING. your totally out of it the day of surgery and they take it out the next day. I can just barely remember them removing it . The stomach tube isnt that bad. It hurt a little when its removed but by the time you can think to say, " ouch", and then say it, the nurse has pulled it out and is putting a bandaid on it. Its literally a 4 second pain ....
With the liquid diet before you can have cucmbers and celery. I even ate a few pickles to get rid of my salty craving and it was ok. By the time you get past the 4th day the liquid diet is really no big deal. Good luck , You will do great. I( would love to meet up with youy after your surgery if you have any questions. I had my surgery on July 28th . I started off at 220 and I'm now 173. So, I'm very happy

talk soon

I had Dr. Farhan, too.  I did not have a tube in my nose, according to my hubby.  I don't recall them putting one in my nose before hand, and he said I didn't come out of surgery with one in my nose.  Hmmmm....interesting how things change!

Nope, the hardest part is the rest of your life, not the liquid diet.
After the big loss, after the body learns to compensate for the temporary partial malabsorbtion, after the hunger comes back, after you get a new wardrobe, then reality settles in.

And reality is that you will have to be VERY careful with what and how much you eat for the REST OF YOUR LIFE.  You will have to be very careful with taking vitamins and minerals for the REST OF YOUR LIFE. You will have the very real threat of becoming obese again for the rest of your life.

All this wonderful surgery does is to reset us to look like normal people.  We then have to do the same work they do to look normal.  In the process of getting to that point in my journey, I realized just how easy it is to cheat and eat too much.  Many of my friends can tell you just how much sugar it takes them to dump, which means that they have tested the limits as well.  Regain will happen unless you control yourself every ding-danged day.

Yes, I'm glad I had the surgery.  Yes, I lost at the high end of what doctors think is success.  (They call it successful if you only lose half of your excess weight.). Yes I have kept my total regain to 15 pounds, but it is hard and will not get any easier for the rest of my life.

So, while you are asking for the Lord's help, you will need it the rest of your post-surgery life, not just for the liquids.

Best wishes on your journey.
