Protein Bars.......

Just curious if any of you eat them?  Today I ate my first protein bar since surgery.  I swear I read about them on the RNY board on OH, but I can't remember.  They are Pure Protein bars.  Yummm...it was really good, but here are the stats and I'm looking for some opinions.  Me personally, I think they are a little high in calories but otherwise I guess it looks okay.  They sure do fill you up!  Maybe I should have only had a half of a one, but it tasted really good.

1 Bar

Calories   200
Total Fat  6 grams
Carbs      16 grams
Fiber        1 gram
Sugars     2 grams
Sugar Alcohol   6 grams
Protein    20 grams

What do you think??

Thanks!

Mary, the ingredients are a long list....but here is the first few

chocolate Coating (Malitol), Fractionated Palm Kernel OIl, Whey Protein Concentrate, Cocoa, Calcium Carbonate, Natural Flavoring.....etc.....

I had the chocolate peanut butter flavor and it tasted really good, but man, was I full most all of the afternoon.  I think a half would have been good enough.

Holy Canoli,  30g of sugar would make my pouch very angry and I think I would dump.

Holy crap!  Way too much sugar in that first one.

I do use the South Beach ones sometimes -- but go for the protein bar instead of the meal replacement ones.

My Recipe Index is packed full of yumminess!

yes I know
I didn't even look at the guide because I bought it at the vitamin shop and just assumed it was OK.  I saved the wrapper and when I put it into my food tracking application. I was mortified.
And my reaction was the same as yours.
I was very surprised that I didn't dump.

After I calculated that sugar I seriously was rethinking protein bars.

Hi Nan,

I use Protein Bars when I am having a hard time getting my protein goal with natural proteins.  I am NOT a fan of the powders so I find the bars to be tolerable.  I really like the Supreme Carb conscious bars.  The Original (orange wraapper) tastes like a hundred grand bar and I really like the new cookies and cream flavor.  The Sugar count is low enough,  so I dont dump from them and it doesnt raise my blood sugars.  The calories are higher than I would like.  I buy the smaller bars and I take my time finishing them becasue they can be filling.  They come in two sizes, aand I usually buy the smaller ones becasue thats about all i can take at a time.

Here is a link to the site for the nutritional information.

Thanks Rob for the link.  I am going to check them out.  One of my favorite candy bars used to be the hundred grand bar!  I'm really afraid to test the waters with sugar at all.  I am really afraid of dumping and to be honest have no idea if I dump on sugar or not, I just don't want to find out.

Thanks for the reply.
