Feels more real now
So I've been set on having WLS. planning for it if you will, for quite some time. From about 2001 until this year, I've thought about it, but didn't want to go the RNY route and didn't know about other types of WLS.
Now, though, it is really starting to feel real. Without realizing it, I've been doing a dr supervised diet since April. It is open enrollment time so we are looking at different insurance options to best accomodate us. And, drum roll please, I'm going to a seminar next week. Hopefully everything will fall into place and by this time next year, I can be well on my way to a happier, healthier, more energetic ME!

Don't feel you are alone when you think of how long you have taken to come to term with WLS.
I know I thought about it many times over the years. Then a friend , that I worked with, had the surgery. I didn't know until after she came back to work. I asked her a lot of questions. Not really intending on having the surgery, That stuck with me for about two more years. Then when my PHP put me on diabetes medicine. I said I was tired of living this unhealthy life. so two yrs. after my friend opened my eyes, I approached my doctor and he put me on the path to recovery.
and about 6 months later I Got my surgery. Most people refer to the journey to Weigh loss as starting when you begin the process to WLS. However I think we have been on it our whole life but didn't realize where we were headed.
Good Luck and Welcome to the Michigan OH forum

:) I wish you the best. :)
I felt the same way for whatever reason... that I didnt want the RNY but after a lot of fighting with insurance and other things I'm planning on going the RNY route because it is what I can get paid for and..you know I think it's gonna be ok!
I wish you tons of luck and smooth sailing on your journey!

Hi, I too was fearful of RNY had a friend 8 yr.s ago almost die. So I had the lapband 20mo. ago. I have not lost a pound no problems just had been on so many restricted diets my metabolism shut down. Now due to needing knee replacements and lymphedema and hypertension I had the RNY 3 days ago and am doing fine. The procedure has come along way and I've met many people who have done very well. Everything is what you make it. I know now my friend ate wrong and didn't take her vitamins. I've met 2 other people recently who stopped taking their vitamins and now have to have daily injections. I also have many friends who have done very well and look healthy and are energetic even in their 60's. I want to feel good and be able to work another 6-8 yr.s and be able to chase after my new grandson. Already I'm sleeping without knee pain and sounder. Weighing all of my opions I would do it again. The pain seems to be less than the lapband and seems to be localized to where the port was taken off the muscle. The best advise I can give is research on you own everything you can then weigh the pros and cons. I've been eating the bariatric way for 2 yr.s and so now with the RNY the fat will release the fluid I hold and I will lose wt. faster than most possible 20ib.s of fluid in a month alone. Good Luck!
