Hey everyone...what's up today?
I am so glad it wasn't pitch dark when I sent the kids off to school this morning.

I have a bunch of yucky stuff to deal with at work today and then some school committee meetings after work that aren't going to be fun either.  I will be glad when this day is done!

For those of you that took a psych eval (the long test with the fill-in bubbles), did you start to wonder if you were answering right?  I mean, obviously you answer no when they ask if you are hearing voices, but some of those questions were tricky!!  The one that sticks out in my mind was a T or F question "I think children should be told the truth about sex".  How the heck do you answer that?  My first thought "NO!  You don't talk to kids about sex."  Then I thought, hmmm, but what if they are saying like older kids?  I don't want to seem like I am a liar.  What if I say F and it indicates that I won't tell the truth about what I'm doing after surgery?  And I sat there forever driving myself crazy over that one answer.  Then I said screw it, and just finished the test without worrying.  If I am too crazy to have a revision, then so be it!!

Ok, done rambling now.  Hope you all have a great day!!

Ha!  I had those thoughts all the way through that test!  My dad is a shrink and I called him on the way home from the psych eval - "what the hell was that!?"  I asked him.  He laughed and said that 1.  it was weird of them to give us that test as it's really meant to be used within a context of a bunch of other indicators...  and 2) that the individual questions aren't specific indicators but rather, the pattern of how the questions are answered is what's meaningful.

Whatever - I thought it was a crazy test to take for WLS!!  :)

Brenda, I'm interested in knowing what your plans are.  Has UM given you any feedback?  Have you decided to go with another surgeon/hospital?  What procedure are you thinking of having done?  What were the results of your egd?   I hope the path to get where you want to be is smooth going for you!!!

Brenda,

Isn't that test just the craziest thing ever!  I took the test which was about 200-300 questions and then he told me it came back 'non conclusive' so I had to take a 2nd test.  Different questions and all true and false that time.  He told me I was 'thinking about the answers to much' the first time around.  Some of the questions were just down right weird.... :-)

1st love the new avi!

2nd, we had to take the same test to be foster parents.  What I was told was that they look to see if you answer the same way, so they ask the same question a few times in different ways to see if your consistent, dunno.

My thought on you having to re do  they psyc it is unbelievably stupid.....ummmm you've already proven you could handle the situation, duh, you've already done it!  dumb, dumb, dumb!  What are they going to do if you fail, reverse the first one?  Dumb!

What is kind of weird is I know I answered some of the same questions differently.  Like one question would say "I like the energy of crowds" and I put False, because crowds bug me.  But then there was another question about crowds, or large groups of people, and that made me think of Comerica Park, and the Tigers, and I love the Tigers, so I put True.  Every question made me think of something or someone or some particular situation, so I know I was all over the map.

Interesting that you should say that about me proving I can handle WLS.....to most people, having a revision proves you FAILED at it the first time.  My DH even says this is my 3rd chance at losing weight (the first being on my own, second was RNY).  I'm sure I'm going to get lots of feedback about it.  It's nice that yours was the first, and it was positive.  I heart you, Edie! :)

Hi Brenda:
I am interested in what type of revision you are having....if you don't want to share here, would you send me a PM, please.

The one my surgeon suggested was bilio-pancreatic diversion.  Would cause more mal-absorption and lots of loose bowels.   I opted out on that.

Thanks,
Pat r.

Hi Pat,
I am just going through the approval process right now (pre-op tests, etc.) but still talking with Dr. Katz about what type of revision.
It will be a type of ERNY as my insurance won't pay for RNY to DS and I don't want lap band over the pouch.
I don't mind talking about it here, and I'll post more as I make more concrete decisions.

As you've probable noticed I don't blow smoke up someones ass to make them happy, I'm a pretty straight shooter, so of course my response was positive... what else could it be.  You lost the weight the first time (not all of it, but hey most of us don't, me included) true, true.  You started gaining so you reviewed what you were doing, you tried different things, fighting it as best you could (hell you even added vegetables to your diet !!!), true, true.  And last, you looked to see if there was a physical problem, and of course there was.

I think there are allot of people who think that surgery is a going to solve all their problems and that they don't need to work at it.  I can tell from your previous posts and the person I've gotten to know, you do not think that way, your working at it and that's all that matters.

Ignore all the naysayers, you know the truth, you'll get there.

you should tell him that You have not failed your just not done yet.

The revision should be thought of as maintenance. Not a correction for not succeeding

Tell Hubby that this is just maintenance like he maintains the car.

If it had a bad valve or oil leak would he get it fixed or just let it leak?

You do what is right for you.  And what you will be happy with.
