Dumping???
This has happened to me a couple of times. When it does I feel the reason is that I ate to fast. I get sick to my stomach about ten minutes after eating. I usually get sick twice then feel fine.
Well last night was a whole new thing. We were in a hurry to get to the store, so I'm sure I ate to fast. Within ten minutes I got sick twice, still I didn't feel any better. An hour later I'm still getting sick. I thought I felt better, so we left for the store. Within fifteen minutes of being in the store I had to leave my cart and go to the car. There I got sick twice. After getting home I still was getting sick. All total I was sick like for three hours. So is dumping different each time, or is it only when you get sick for like 2-3 hours. Is that what they call dumping? I DO NOT want to experince what happen last night again.
Thanks
Cheryl

I'm assuming you had RNY, right?
Here's my take on dumping, but everyone is different:
There are 3 types of "dumping" or pouch upset-sugar related/food getting stuck/foods that just don't agree with you.
Remember, this is just what has happened to me, and everyone experiences something different (I can't say that enough). I have dumped on sugar before. It is usually a headache, sometimes vomiting, sometimes diarrhea. I try to "get rid" of whatever I ate, but that doesn't work. I got sick from a bowl of cereal once and for about 5 hours I felt like I was going to die.
I would think if something was stuck, like you didn't chew well enough, then it would have fixed itself after you got sick.
Sometimes I eat things like pasta or rice that make me sick like you described. What happens is my pouch doesn't like it, I throw up, but then the pouch is still angry for the rest of the day and I feel like garbage.
What were you eating that made you so sick? I would look at that, and then try cutting up your food before you eat so it's in smaller portions to start with.
One more thing to confuse you-right after surgery I got the flu and was throwing up all the time. I didn't realize it wasn't something I was doing wrong, but a virus.
I know saying that it could be a lot of things doesn't help, but pay attention to what you were eating and go slow trying that next time. Some things, like lettuce, poultry, beef, pasta, etc. just don't sit right. For many people they can never eat these things again without getting sick.
Hope you're feeling better!

Thanks for the replies Ladies
Yes I did have the RNY
What I had ate was left overs from the night before, and at that time I didn't have a problem just couldn't eat it all.
Cut up chicken breast (very small bites) with Taco mix along with cook green/red peppers and some refried beans. Which I eat chicken breast probably 5 times a week.
I ate about 1/4 c of the chicken mix and ate about 1/4 c of the refried beans. Not to gross anyone out but the first three times I got sick it was all food. After that it was like a slimy water. My mouth just kept filling up with salty water. Along with pain just below where the rib cage splits. After that passed I could take my meds along with my protein drink before going to bed. This morning breakfast was protein drink/meds, then my snack was 1/2 c. of cheerio's with sk milk. I have been fine sense. I just don't want to do a repeat performance of last night. I have always been a fast eater. So sometimes I think I just slip into a old habit, and forget to chew chew chew. Or take to big of bite.
Thanks again

Cheryl,
Here's my experience.
I have 2 totally different symptoms depending on whether it's because food got stuck or if I ate to much sugar.
1. Food getting stuck... for me that means pain and vomiting. I have never thrown up more than twice in a session, I just need to unstick the piece of food that is stuck. But to warn you, I could only handle shakes or yogurt for the next 24 hours, nothing dense at all until my pouch healed.
2. the excess sugar/carb dump. In those situations, I feel like I did when I was diabetic and my sugars were too low. I get sweaty, shaky, increased heart rate, nauseated ....that always lasts 30 minutes for me (luckily), I've heard others say that it lasted for 1-3 hours for them.
Hope your feeling better today,
Edie

Hey Cheryl,
I can relate to what you've described. I chalk it up to eating too fast. And yes, sometimes I get sick twice and am ok, and other times I get sick several times. The stuff after the food is what they call foamies. It just seems to be foam that comes up right? I seem to slip up about once a week and end up in the bathroom throwing up. One time I was driving my car trying to get home before getting sick but I didn't make it and drove home barfing into my grocery bag (after dumping out the groceries!:) Just s l o w down and remember to chew. I don't think I've had a true dumping experience yet, but have felt crappy for a couple of hours. I think dumping is quite painful and you're sick for a long time. Just my take on it.

Hey Jan
I think you have hit the nail on the head. With eating to fast. First the food comes up a couple of times. Then next I wouldn't describe it as foam. It is just a clear liquid that seems to be thick and slimy. If you have ever fished before it reminds me of fish slime.
Thanks for the advice all
