Has anyone been successful with a laparoscopic surgery with previous endometriosis/hysterectomy.  Dr Farhan says I might have to do open because of scar tissue.  Yikes!

I had my tubes removed along with hernia repair, and removal of appendix and Dr. Kemmeter was able to do my RNY laproscopically, but he said there was a lot of scar tissue and it took him longer to do the surgery.  My lower abdomen looked like I had been beaten with a baseball bat !!!!   Hope your Doc can do yours lap......so much easier on the recovery.

Dr. Farhan said the same thing to me.  I had a ruptured appendix as a teenager and have a huge scar since it was an open wound healing process.  Plus I have endometriosis with large masses of scar tissue on my "parts".  But was able to have lap surgery.

Basically they tell you it "might" go to open just to cover themselves.  If they get you in the OR and feel the need to do open surgery, they want your consent that they can do it.  Otherwise they stop the surgery, wake you up, ask for your permission then go back to surgery (and probably not all in the same day).  So this is pretty standard to make sure you know that open might become necessary.

Dr. G started to do a laparoscopic  rny on me but ended up opening me up.  I had a previous hernia repair.  I hurt more from the lap cuts than the open one.  They gave me a binder to wear and I was good to go.  I used the pain meds only to sleep not for pain.

Good Luck

I had a hysterectomy in 2006 and another major stomach surgery in 2007 where it had to heal from the inside out so there is a BIG scar running down my middle. There was alot of scar tissue but my Dr was able to do it laparoscopiclly it just took liike 6 hours for my surgery and I had 9 little insisions instead of the normal 4. Good luck and I hope yours can be done the easy way :)

Thanks everyone as I have hope now.  I think i have a wonderful surgeon.  I am confident with all your stories similar to mine, that he will be successful.

I just descovered your message so I am a little late to responde.  Anyway, I have had laposcopic surgery for hysterectomy due to endometriosis.  My uturis was wrapped around my left overy and what was supposed to be a 2 hour surgery ended up being a 4 hour surgery.  So I have had this surgery but my bariatrics doctor has never said that I have to have opened up completely for my WLS.  Hope this gives you some hope.
