Surgery consult tomorrow!
Hi my name is Teddi. I am meeting with Dr. Farhan tomorrow. I am probably doing this backwards. i am still waiting for insurance approval(probably by the 30th). If I do not get it I am going to self pay as much as that scares me. this meeting tomorrow lasts 6 hours. Anyone been to one this long and what should I expect?

When I went to where I'm going for my RNY, I first sat in a big waiting room with others. We were called back to have a class on it (seminar is what they called it). That lasted about maybe an hour. Then, we all went back to the waiting room to wait to have a one on one consultation with the surgeon. I was called back first because I was first on their list. (They went in order of who signed in, so if you signed in last, then you sat longer and you were there longer) My one on one visit with my surgeon lasted about 15 maybe 20 minutes.
So, maybe the 6 hours is like what I had to go through. DUNNO.
But, that was my experience.
Boy, I sure hope you get your insurance to approve it. I know how you must want to have the surgery, but to have to self pay ~ OUCH!!

I had my consultation yesterday - I am so excited to finally be "on my way"......
It is funny how everyone does things differently. I was there for a couple of hours - first saw and spoke with the nurse. The the nutrionist talked to me. Then the surgeon. Then I talked with the insurance coordinator!
I already did my psych evaluation - and have been to my PCP to get him on board. Now I just wait til my 6 months of weigh ins and visit with the dietician is done to satisfy my insurance (BCN) then they submit me for approval. I am looking at March or April for my surgery.
What kind of insurance do you have?
