October 19 - 23, 2009 Ban Fat Talk Week
I was surfing around and found this. It is very interesting.
www.endfattalk.org/index.html

It is about fat talk.
(IE. person 1 "wow you look nice since you lost all that weight"
person 2 " Thank you but my butt is still to fat and I have along way to go")
Unknowingly we pass this on to others and feed a lack of confidence and self esteem, which, we are so deserving of. And there is more to it too. If you watch the snip it above it is better explained.

QOTD: What is your fat talk and what will you do to change it?

QOTD: I have always felt shy about taking compliments. so I am going to learn to take a deep breath and say 'Thank You and stop at that.

Hope every one has a mighty fine day!

My goodness woman - EARLY isn't 1am in the morning!!!  Ok - since I'm up with you, I'll try to answer...

I have a tendency to also negate a compliment when someone says something like "wow - you don't have anything else to lose" - and I'll come back and say "oh yes, there is still a bit there" and maybe grab my leg or something.

Compliments are nice.  You do learn to smile and say thank you graciously and appreciate them in the context they were intended for.  I also have a tendency when i get a compliment about how I look to say "and I feel SO much better now too".  They know then its not just helping me on the outside, but my overall health has improved too.

Just have my mind wandering and have to keep it busy for a few
so here I am making Kristy think again.

And from what I saw of Jody last week, she should be getting compliments all of the time.  She's just the tiniest little thing.
What a success story you have Jody.  I just can't believe how wonderful you look.  I agree, anyone looking at you today would have no idea that you once had a weight problem!  You take compliments the way I do.  "Thank you, and I feel so much better now"  That way I'm telling them I didn't lose the weight just for looks!

Thank you Jan!

Yesterday I saw my BF for the first time since August - we were sitting in a coffee shop chatting and drinking a latte.

He said "something (mumbling like men do) good".. I said "yea the coffee is real good"
He said "no - I said you look good" - LOL... I was a little caught off guard - then I recomposed and said "OH - thank you"...  and he laughed...

Wow, your one year surgiversary is tomorrow.  Congratulations.  I hope I can do as well as you've done!  Nice to have the men in our life show some appreciation for the accomplishments we've made eh?

Good morning ladies.I am on my way to work drinking coffee with sugar free hazelnut creamer.I am dreading work it is soooooo stressful lately.Just eight hours and come home...must repeat fourty times to let it sink in......I also say things like "I have a ways to go but thanks"Even when my hubby gives me compliments I take them negatively.Last weekend he told me I looked beautiful with the colors I was wearing and I got new glasses, went for a new look...It took me a few minutes to acknowledge the compliment......I still say I need a shrink......I have never been overly confident..I feel even though I have lost 196 pounds I still have a huge stomach because that is where all my weight was I have a big panni,so now that is my downfall....Hopefullly my mind will catch up soon because I could go on forever...Have lovely day ladies and any gents that pop in.......

Good Morning Mary and everyone!
Trying to wake up with a cup of decaf black coffee this morning.
Good question this morning! Trying to deal with fat talk all the time.
My fat talk is:
Person: What did you do to loose all that weight?
Me: Used to say "Oh, diet and exercise"
Now I say "weight loss surgery-the lap band." I used to be so afraid of the negative reaction to WLS. But now I'm no longer reluctant to share. Too bad if they think it's "the easy way out."
May not be exactly fat talk, but I'm so tired of WLS bashing!!!!!
Off to the students I go...
