Vitamins
Does anyone know if its ok to take Vit C, Vit D3, Calcium and a Multi Vit all at the same time? I have been for years and now I have kidney stones, not sure if its related or not.
Don't go back to the doctor until the 30th so if some one could let me know I would appreciate it.
Thanks so much,
Robin

A couple questions and observations ...
*** Is there iron in your multi-vitamin? If so, then keep your calcium away from your multi dose. Separate those by at least 2 hours.
*** What kind of calcium are you taking? Calcium carbonate is known to cause kidney stones and it's the wrong kind of calcium for us anyway. So make sure you're doing calcium CITRATE.
*** Kidney stones can also be caused by a high protein diet and NOT drinking enough water to flush the unused protein from your system. So make sure you're getting enough water every day. (64oz)
*** Calcium and Vitamin D are friends. Take them together. You need 1500-2000mg calcium citrate per day, but your body can only deal with about 500mg at a time. So you'll need 3 or 4 doses of calcium spread at least 2 hours apart throughout the day.
*** Vitamin C and iron are friends. Take your Vitamin C with your iron and/or multi-vitamin to aid in the iron absorption.
*** The B vitamins are a team and work best when they're in your tummy together. So take your B12, B-50 complex and multi-vitamin together. This also goes for biotin if you're taking that.

I take all Costco brand vitamins, will read the labels and see whats up I drink "some" water but not enough, I have a huge problem with drinking. Tried all the flavored mixes and they just don't agree with me. I do what I can do.
As far a protein, I eat mostly protein but not huge amounts. I go back to the Urologist the 30 and will see what he says. They sent my stone to Texas for analysis and I am waiting for the results to come back before seeing him.
Thanks for all your help.

You NEED to drink. Seriously. We don't absorb fluids the same was we did pre-op, so it's a lot more important than it was before. Normally water was absorbed in our full stomach, but our pouch no longer can absorb water so we don't get the benefit of water absorption until it reaches our large intestine.... and that doesn't give a lot of time for the water to get much attention before it's released from the body unused. So we need to drink MORE than the normal person just to get the same benefit.
See this diagram.
I know, I know, I know... drinking plain water is hard. My pouch doesn't like plain old water so I need to do flavored stuff. You just need to keep experimenting until you find whatever works for you. And remember that ALL fluids count toward your daily count. Milk, broth, diet juices, protein shakes, etc. Have you tried "True Lemon" -- it's a dried lemon additive you put in water and it tastes like you squeezed a wedge of lemon in it, no over powering, just a hint of flavor. Find it in the sugar section at the grocery store next to the Splenda and Equal packets.
Yesterday there was a post called something like "Why it's important to drink your water" -- it was from a lady who had kidney stones and her doctor told her it was because she wasn't drinking water.
Keep us posted on what the lab discovers about your tests.
