Here's how much of a dork I am. A couple years ago, a friend and I decided we were going to reincarnate the usage of "shall". It became an inside joke and we tried to "out shall" each other. It was funny....to us...LOL! You might've had to be there. I don't think we were successful.

I shall not forget you tried to revive that word, but I shall forget I'm afraid! (sorry that deserves a big LOL!!!)

Morning Ya'll, Well being born and raised in the south some of the first words you learn are please, thank you, yes ma'am no sir, etc. So when I moved up here my kids were so used to it, it tended to make them outsiders. After a short while of living in our neighborhood the kids around us picked them up also.
When my son moved up here to live with us he was fresh out of high school and of course going through parochial school and the south he was a bit different. His friends here dubbed him the "southern gentleman". I was proud.
I have a pet peeve too, I understand everyone is given a name to be addressed by, but, I still like to hear elders referred to as Mr. So and So or Mrs. So and
Sorry for the long response...but, I agree manners are very important.....

Just got back from the 'woman's club' meeting. After lunch I knew I was going to hurl, so I excused myself and went to the ladies room. After a half an hour of dry heaves, foamies and finally getting rid of the lunch I rejoined the group just as the meeting ended. I hate getting sick out somewhere. I guess the kielbasa and saurkraut didn't sit well with me.
The nice young cable guy stopped by this morning to see if I'm going to be home this afternoon. He said he's going to stop by and install a couple of jacks for me since I had so much trouble with the cable company. I told him he didn't have to do that, that I have someone coming out Thursday and his reply was 'that's ok dear, I'm happy to do it for you" What was with the 'dear' thing?? I don't feel that old!
I think we could say "I'm proud" "I'm sorry" and "I was wrong" more, but only if we truly mean it. Please, and thank-you are automatic in my book. The one word I really hate is "can't". Dork is good. We've got a couple of them here.... :)
