Inspiration

Did you ever find inspiration at and time and place you really weren't expecting it?

Today I was at the cardiologist having an echocardiogram.  The test was done by a young (slim) girl.  Of course she asked me why I was having the test and I told her about the surgery.

She told me a nice long story about a lady who came to the doctor's office where she worked and how she was so heavy and lost so much weight and was really doing wonderfully.

As I left, she said "good luck with your surgery.  you are going to be so happy"

I was so inspired by the compassion she had for this lady and the fact that she assured me I would be happy with the surgery.  I just didn't expect that from, as I said, a young(slim) girl.

Thought I would share.

I am glad you got that test over with and the girl was compassionate.
Most of the medical professionals I have dealt with have been good about the knowledge I was going to have the WLS.

Most of the time I find the Opinion-ators in the strangest places.
Like at Zorba health food store. When I went to see what they had that I might want for my diet
I was asking a clerk about some vitamins  for my surgery. She asked what kind of surgery>
I told her. She began to tell me how I was basically getting an operations so I could starve my self and no amount of vitamins would stop that. I tried to plead my case. But she would hear nothing of what I was saying. She became rude and walked away and refused to assist me any longer to find the vitamins I was searching for.

I decided that, this was my first and last time in the place.
There prices and selection were not that phenomenal anyway.

glad you had a good experience.

For that exact reason many people have decided NOT to tell anyone about them having the surgery prior to it.  Now I tell anyone and everyone, because they can see the results.  The reaction I get now is "wow - but you look so healthy"... and I reply back 'because I'm doing it the right way - with my vitamins and protein'... they can't argue with success.

The ones that are the naysayers are the uninformed ones.

It took only 1 rude response in a pre-surgery conversation for me to adopt that attitude that I wasn't going to tell anyone else.

Some people I tell, and other's I don't.  My cousin's daughter had RNY and all she did was bad mouth her, saying she didn't have enough will power and that she (her daughter) just took the easy way out.  When my cousin asked how I was losing weight, I told her I was doing a high protein/low carb diet.  Which essentially is the truth, I just left out the RNY part.  I don't need her talking behind my back and bad mouthing me.  I don't like judgmental people and don't want to get into a long drawn out discussion or argument.  In fact, today I'm going to 'club' with this cousin and they serve lunch, so she'll get a first hand view of how I eat now.  Maybe she'll understand that it's a choice I'm making now, for me and no one else (well, maybe my family)

Hi Sandi,

I am glad you found inspiration from a younger woman.  She appears to be a very compassionate caregiver and that is a blessing.

I find inspiration everytime I go see my PCP.  He is younger than I and he ultimately approved both of my surgeries, my wls and my TT.  And two years out, even with some weight gain, he walks into the exam room and says 'hey skinny, you're looking great.'  Now come on, how can that not inspire you to not eat those friggin crunchy cheetos???  It inspires me anyway.

Inspiration also comes by my friends, Daily, because we struggle with the same issues as we are all more than a year and a half out.

I have an appt. Oct. 26 with Dr. Carlin and surgery should be scheduled then.  I found out today that both the stress test and echocardiogram were fine so the cardiologist is faxing an approval letter.  Yippee!!

From what I hear, they're scheduling out to February right now.  Maybe you can get a cancellation.  There's always hope for that...
