Michigan Medicaid

I sent in my application for Medicaid at least 5 weeks ago.  DHS keeps saying it can take up to 6 weeks with the heavy volume of apps lately.  I am DESPERATE to have roux en y surgery.  I just wondered how long it takes Medicaid to approve the surgery once you supply them with the 5 years of medical documentation they are asking for.   That and a BMI over 40 are the only two requirements I saw for MI Medicaid to approve the surgery.  Anyone know how long it takes to get approved by MI Medicaid??

well It didnt take my long to get approved to get the medicaid but once I was approved it I had to find a good surgeon that would take it.  It seems nobody takes the basic Medicaid but there are different places that will take the different medicaid health plans.  I found out which plans I had a choice of and then started making phone calls.  I called 26 surgeons/hospitals in MI and I did finally find one that said yes for one of them so I chose THAT health plan as my medicaid plan and I am not on my way... but Once I was approved it still was another 4-6 weeks before the plan started and even now Ive had it for 3 months and I STILL have not received the health cards in the mail!  It's a slow process.

I wish you lots of luck!  I bet you will hear soon.

Thanks for your feedback.  Do you know the specific requirements Medicaid has for performing the surgery?  You mentioned a 6 month diet and a psych eval.  I thought you just had to have a BMI over 40 and 5 years of doctor notes.

I'm excited for you!
