I signed my 12 yo daughter and I up for a 3 mile walk on Sat.  I never participated in one of these.  How challenging is it?  It's going to be along the lake (Lake Superior) so no uphills!  My daughter is also overweight and worried about it.  I think we will be fine and it will be some one on one time.  She loves that!  Oh and a free water bottle, prizes and a step meter!  Can't beat that!

If you are walking on a regular basis it will be no problem.

I did my first one in March.  I almost backed out because the thought of it, 3 miles, seemed so long.  It was a breeze.  Keep your mind active.  Chat while you walk or take music to listen to, and you will be done in about a hour give or take.

Best of luck

Pam

You'll be fine!  When I started doing all my runs/races I was surprised at the excitement in the atmosphere and how nobody really cares how long anyone takes to do these things.  Enjoy the time with your daughter and the atmosphere of walking with people.  My guess is they may have a water station about half-way for you guys.  Take your time and assume that if you walk fast it'll take you 45 minutes and a more leisurely time will be around an hour.
