I have noticed this but I guess it is considered the gold standard right?

I have it in my head that I was the DS but I've called every place in that sticky thread up there
and asked about medicaid and I only got 2 yes's and both places only do a lap band or RNY
SO, I am trying to mentall switch gears here because I would much rather have the RNY then nothing of course I am jsut more afraid of  life after rny...  maybe I should be posting this on teh rny message board but this is my home state afterall I figure some of you are probably close by.

Did anyone have  theirs done at the McLaren Bariatric Institute?

I have a lap band but you will find the Michigan folks are pretty supportive of whatever surgery works best for you, so go with whatever your surgeon thinks is best and is covered by insurance, and we will be here for you.

Be careful when refering to any of the WLS procedures as the "gold standard". What works best for one person may not work best for the other.

Instead research each WLS procedure, study and read the side effects and what the "after-life" with each procedure provides.

For me it was the DS. over 15 years ago I met someone that had the DS and I was so impressed not only with her weight loss but the quality of her life after surgery that it sealed the deal for me. I was so impressed  that I went out of the country to have it done as my insurance would not cover it.

Whichever procedure you choose know the good, the bad & the ugly of it as it is a lifetime decision.

I have researched it.  I agree I thikn in many ways the DS would make life quality better afterward but I wont ever get it funded and I didnt call it the "gold standard"  well, I repeated it but that was what the surgeon said at the seminar I went to.

I called McLaren Bariatric and I got my "yes" :)  It may be the RNY I am getting now but you cant easily take away my excitement.  I am jsut so ready to change my life and move forward!!!!

Now I have to kill time until Sept 15th when I get to go to a seminar there and HOPEFULLY walk out with my appt with their DR  :)  ohh  My time is coming!!!

I hope that everything will work out for you. My Dr is from McLaren. I'm having surgery on the 21st. I've actually only meet with the dr 2 times (sem and consult) the office staff is great. I only have my NUT class left (Tues). Did the PAT Fri and that was easy and the nurses were very nice, didn't care for the blood tech (have a huge bruise on my forearm where she butchered me w/a butterfly) I've you'd like an update after my surgey just let me know.

Good luck w/everything
