Went to see Dr. DiNick today and got 3 of the 4 drains out!!! I am sooooo happy....those drains are worse than the tummy tuck/hernia reapir. I hate how they pull....yikes.
Bad news is though the last one has to stay in for another two weeks cause of the holiday weekend......darn

take care all!

 Hi Jody!

I will tell you whatever you want to know! I had a tummy tuck with the anchor cut, and a hernia repair. I highly recommend the anchor cut......which is when they cut you horizontally and vertically. Dr. DiNick wanted to do this so I would not have the overhang when I sit over the jeans. With the regular tt this is not addressed.
I am loving the results and it has only been 1 1/2 weeks. I have had very little swelling....but I have followed his orders to a t! My recovery has not been bad at all. After the first 4 days I actually quit taking pain meds during the day...only took at bed time. The first 2 days were the worst then I felt alot better. The first and second day they couldnt get me the pain med fastest enough! I just finished school so I did this before looking for a job. However the time off is 8 weeks.
Feel freee to ask anything else you want....I am happy to answer. I would Highly recommend Dr. DiNick at Barix in Ypsilanti....his work is worth the drive!  Whoever ever you choose make sure they have experience with tt after hugh amounts of weight loss!

Thanks for the info.  Did you have a thigh lift too, or just the TT?  I didn't know there were different types of TT's... I learned something new!  There's a surgeon here in town that is recommended by the local bariatric office, but I haven't checked him out yet.  He doesn't take insurance of any kind - so that may be a problem, IF my insurance will cover part of it.

How often do you go back for follow-ups?  How many drains do you have?  How long will they be in?  Does he require your weight be stable for a certain length of time?

It sound slike you're doing very well.  Do you really think you'll take the full 8 weeks off?

   Hey Jody....

No i didnt have the thigh lift....but I do need it! Insurance would not pay for that though....so I will have to save the money up for that one! Do you have a hernia? They will for sure pay for the tummy tuck then. They did mine.
Right now i have to go back every week till all the drians are out. I started out with 4 and had three taken out saturday which was my first appointment. I was a VERY good girl though and did absloutly nothing so that the drains wouldnt get full and have to stay in. The less you put out the more quickly they take them out. I am hoping to get the last one out at the next appointment....which should be this week, but he only sees patients on Saturday's since he does surgery all week, and this is a holiday weekend...therefore no appointment. :(
I dont have a job yet so I don't have one to hurry back to. However I dont think I would have taken the full 8 weeks anyhow. I tend to heal very well and quick. I went back after my open bypass in two weeks.

No - I don't have a hernia... I'm probably not looking at having anything done until next year probably... but do need the TT and thigh/butt lift.  Unfortunately I don't think insurance is going to pay for any of it... so that will limit me to what I can have done.

Thanks for sharing with me - I should get a consult here and see what the Dr has to say.  I'm definitely going to shop around for a surgeon though....

Your kids are getting you this TT for your bday right?  Di Nick is one of the most affordable Dr.s in the metro Detroit area.   Again, he specializes in Bariatric Patients.  I would say, make an appt for a quote, which he only does Saturday mornings.  You will have to wait in the lobby for some time..He will take some pics, measurements and his asst will call you with a price and what insurance will cover then ask you to schedule surgery.  I had my TT with dinick one yr ago.  I had the anchor cut to fit in jeans better and frankly to guarantee a smaller sized me.  My recovery time was about 3 wks, though I took all six.  By the fifth week, I was traipsing around town, meeting my friends for lunch and showing off my hot bod ;).  Its part of the healing process, I swear!  I didn't have a thigh lift, which most of us require, but first get this and maybe on your 6 month f/u ask for another quote.  they have financing thru special companies now for these types of procedures, like new tatas etc.  dinick does not finance.  Now followups, there in lies a problem for you, he wants to see you every wk for like 5 wks, then he goes to every couple weeks til all the drains are out, then monthly.  you would travel a butt-load sweetie.  I would recommend staying in ypsi for the first week like in a hotel, or if you would like, you could stay with a certain member of this board that happens to be the nicest biotch you will ever meet ;)....Oh, most ppl have 4-5 drains depending on their situation.  i had 5 and had them in FOREVER-well six wks.  as far as maintaining a certain weight for a predetermined amount of time, he says eff that, well not really.  he says, If you are happy with your current weight and it wont make the TT go south if you lose more, then DO IT.  he understands how anxious we all are and how the self esteem is boosted by this procedure.  I suggest getting this surgery done during the slowest period of your work.  I was told by my boss to do it immediately cuz there was rumor of my company being sold and i wouldn't get disability insurance if we changed companies.  great boss BTW, to share insider info for my benefit.

good luck!

My KIDS - PAY for THIS??  LMAO - you gave me a good belly chuckle this morning!  Actually, my daughter lives in Brighton, so she would be a good candidate to stay with during recouperation.  Actually, my BF told me if I marry him and move to VA, he'd pay for a TT for me - but unfortunately, that would be there, not in Michigan...

He certainly sounds like a great Dr. and you gave me a LOT of info.  Definitely have me thinking about this (and Dr DiNick) more seriously....  geesh - if I didn't already have my work plans (travel) booked for the rest of this year, I'd think about doing it this fall....
