Good Morning everyone in the big Mitten!
Hope you are having a wonderful week, so far. Made it to Thursday already. It's a cloudy, rainy morning in my neck of the woods. Good morning to sit here with a cup of decaf. What are you waking up with?
Another week before the kidos go back to school. I'm sure they are so excited to get back. WMU starts next week, so I've been seeing students and their parents move back in....
QOTD-Do you agree with the law that school cannot start till after Labor Day? I really think that kids are so ready to go back around the first week of August. To make them wait another month is silly. My kids went back the end of August and we were all glad. Maybe teachers feel differently.....
Have a good one

Well, speaking on behalf of myself and fellow teachers I have talked with, starting after Labor Day is plain stupid. And it was done to increase tourism dollars. I can teach a kid in late August, but after Memorial Day? They are done and summer is here.  I believe it should be a local decision.

No rain here today. Yard cutting and planting day for me! Be well all.

Big Mitten!  What about us Yoopers lol.  Just teasing.

My kids aren't going back til 9/9!  That seems awfully late!  Yet August is pretty early.  I guess I have no real opinion lol.

The yoopers are just the left hand, palm up, thumb up, sideways mitten.  Didn't you know that?  The tip of your left thumb is Copper Harbor!  We've always made Michigan like that.  make sure you do it palms up.
I love Yoopers.  My family is from Nahma and the Houghton area.  i grew up saying 'Eh?'  Still do...

I guess I didn't realize that!  Silly me!  Houghton is a 1/2 hr from me.  I spend a lot of time there!

Hi, all.  I have been away form the boards, traveled to Birmingham, Alabama with my new BF for a wedding, and then two days of hell back at work so I haven't' had a chance to catch up.

Its good to see my Michigan friends still active and thriving.

Chocolate protein drink for b=fast as usual.  At least I've gotten in 42.8 gm of protein the first thing in the morning this way.  It's cold this morning.  I sent all but one sweatshirt and one pair of jeans up north already.  Who'd a thought it would be this cold in August???  Obviously not me.

QOTD:  I think it was even worse when the kids went a half a day on the Thursday before labor day and then a whole day on friday and then had the long weekend off.  My son and DIL are teachers, and I don't think they mind it being after labor day.  My son teaches summer school tho, so he likes the little extra time off.  In TN they go back in early august, but have a couple of two week breaks.  I think that's better actually because they don't have enough time off to forget what they've learned.

Good morning.  Having my coffee.  Trying to decide what to have for breakfast.  I ended up in the ER last night.  Was cutting a sub bun and the knife went right through and I sliced my pinky, right at the base where it meets the palm.  Three stitches....so not too bad.

QOTD:  As a teacher and LOVER of SUMMER, I loved it when they changed the law to start school after Labor Day.  When I was a kid, we always started after Labor Day.  When I was teaching, we had a lot of students that didn't come to school the first few days because the families had vacations planned for the long weekend around Labor Day.  With that being said, the week or so after Memorial Day is a loss, as well.  I have found, over the years, that even with the 2 week Christmas break, you have to review upon return.  The trend now is a week off in Feb for "Winter Break", a month or so after the holiday break, and then a month or so later Spring break.  It seems like we would just get into a good rhythm, and BAM...a week off.  You get worried that you aren't going to get it all crammed in before the next break.   So, I think, one break is better than several.  If you're worried about your child losing what they learned over the summer, then you (a general YOU...not directd at anyone specifically) need to ensure that they continue some form of learning over the summer....reading daily, practicing math facts, etc....summer shouldn't just be a NON learning time just because they aren't in school.  "That's all I'm gonna say 'bout that."

Morning All

Tossing things up a bit today, had a twisted cherry shake at home, my fake bagel and lite cream cheese while I take my morning meds, and then on to some coffee in a bit.   I finally found the arnold sandwich thins, and love them toasted with some lite cream cheese in the morning.  I get my bagel fix this way and my tummy likes my meds better.

Tomorrow is my last physical therapy.  They have taken me as far as they can.  I am worried about this winter, because my foot has some nerve damage, and is very sensative to cold now.  That is when it really aches.

QOTD - My son doesn't go bac****il 9/14.  The school is undergoing renovations, and that is when the contractors had promised to be completely finished.  Last year dealing with contractors, delevery semi's and just plain mess was awful.

My son on the other hand has been ready to go back to school since a week or so after school let out.  We have been steadily working on his summer homework (a notebook almost 2 inches thick) that was sent home on the last day of kindergarden.  We read almost every night, and his reading is greatly improved over ths summer.

Monday we are going to start is schooltime bedtime routine to get him back into the habit.  Bath, snack, brush teeth, reading and sleep.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Pam
