Hutch,

Which surgery did you decide to go with. I know you were still debating it the last I knew. Just curious.

Dude to be perfectly honest with you i don't have a clue. Looking at both forums rny and the band i see better results with the rny but i don't know if i like all the medical problems that comes with it. what have you decided on?

You sound as bad as me!  When they sent in my paperwork for approval I was scheduled for a band.  The doc had told me I didn't have to make up my mind that day for sure but which did I want to get started.  Before I heard I had been approved I called to have it changed to RNY.  They had already had me approved for the band but I hadn't heard from them.  So, they put the paperwork thru for the RNY.

I STILL was researching and asking question.  I went to the PCP to discuss it with her.  We decided I should go with the band.  They told me I was approved for both so it wouldn't be a big deal to change.  Than I found out I had been "unapproved" for the band.  I had to go thru approval again and was told if I changed my mind again I wouldn't be approved.  I can see where they were coming from but, I had been told I didn't have to make up my mind until it was time to start the liquid diet as they are different.

Good Luck with which every you chose.

Hutch,

I am going to go with the band. I have had the benefit of being able to observe family members who have had both types of surgeries. My brother had RNY and, while he has been very successful with it (lost125lbs), I have watched him have to take all those vitamins and what not.
I also have watched another family member who had the band and she has done quite well also but without all the vitamins. I guess it's just a matter of personal preference.
