Silly Question
I was reading an article about the seven things women should do for their long term health and it was really promoting drinking a glass of red wine in the evening . . . do any of you drink red wine?
I haven't drank in years but am wondering about this whole red wine thing . . . . . anyone got any thoughts on that . . . . other than we should all get together and have a glass of wine . . . lol!

My husband & I haven't had in alcohol in 20 years. I also read articles & research regarding red wine. So...we got a bottle of red & each had 4 ounces. Holy Cow! Just that little bit of red wine gave both of us such a morning headache & dry mouth. No more red wine for us! Dr. Oz on the Oprah show (a while ago) talked about pills you can buy that have the same healthful benefit as red wine without having to drink the alcohol. We're trying to find those.
I just got home from Walmart and I found "red wine extract" they were about $8.00 for 80 caplets.
I asked the pharmacist what the difference between the "grape extract" and the "red wine" and he said the "red wine" is just a guarantee that they are from red grapes . . . not sure if that's right or not but I'm going to give them a try.
I like not having hang over head . . but it's been so many years I'm not sure I even remember!

I usually drink white wine - but heck, I can be persuaded to change! My problem is, I don't want to stop with just 1 glass, but 2 knocks me on my butt then I feel hungover in the morning.... its almost laughable considering how much I used to drink pre-op.

I personally don't like red wine it's to dry for me, although we did find a sweeter red the other day that we're going to try.
But the "have a hard time stopping at one" is the biggest problem I have. Alcohol affects me soooo differently post op, I have such a hard time stopping at one, ok I rarely do, that I think I'm going to have to just give it up, bummer!

I'd have to do some more research, but I have heard that even drinking 100% purple grape juice can give you some of the same benefits. I personally believe a little alcohol cleans your system and keeps stuff working as it should. Of course, I come from a long line of hillbilly moonshine runners, so maybe that's why.......
Since surgery, I am the cheapest date! Here's how a night of drinking goes: I order a mixed drink without too much sugar in the mixer. I drink about 4 sips of it. I feel lightheaded and kind of buzzed. This lasts for about 1/2 an hour. All of the sudden, I feel perfectly fine. Take another 4 sips. Same thing. One drink can bring me hours of fun. It's actually kind of cool. I don't drink that often, but when I do, my DH just sits and laughs at me. My pouch seems to absorb stuff so quickly. Another thing is Tylenol PM. Within minutes of taking one I am passed out. Weird, but handy!

Brenda, I've heard that, too, about getting the same benefits from purple grape juice as you do from red wine.
It's been over a year since I've had any alcohol. Last time I drank was at our 20 year high school reunion, last summer. I had WAY too much white wine....like a whole bottle...over the course of the evening. I was so sick the next day that even if I hadn't gotten pregnant shortly thereafter, I still wouldn't have drank ANYTHING. But I might be persuaded...say...at a GNO with my FFG'S? LOL!
