when can i swallow pills?

HI all... had my surgery 6/22.. can i swallow pills yet?  thanks... katie  (the popcorn eater)  that is for you brenda!!)

 Most likely no.  I think I was about 8 months - 1 year out before I tried doing this.  Don't forget that the main reason we don't swallow pills and take liquid medicine is not getting things through the pouch but for absorption reason.

I've heard that some people start taking pills almost immediately.  I however am like Sax, I feel like it's better for your new anatomy to take liquids.  I've been on antibiotics a few times this year and even though I am 20 months out I still ask for liquids.  I want to make sure I'm absorbing everything I can, so for me it's chewable or liquids prob. for life.

But hey that's me.

You know I was kidding about the popcorn!  At least you aren't known as the cheeseburger lady!  We had one of those a few years ago......

Anyway, how big are your pills?  I was told m & m size was ok to swallow.  I didn't like to crush them so I started swallowing them whole pretty early out.  Warning:  Some of the bigger oval shaped pills would get stuck and I'd have to stand on my head and jump around to get them to go down.  Seriously, they really would get stuck.

i know you were kidding.. i was just playing and having fun too.... they are small... smaller than a m&m...cheeseburger.. doesn't even sort of sound good to me...

When Dr. Genaw did my surgery he said if the pills were smaller than a M&M, I could take them whole.   Give them a call, they can tell you when it is OK.   

I heard someone say if they were small like a birth control pill they were ok to take.  I just cut mine in half or quarters.  I can't stand them crushed.  I gag on them, so I've been taking them like this since about a week out.  My bad I guess, but they're getting in.  I'll check with Carlin when I see him tomorrow.
