Hi everyone,
Well, I made the next step towards WLS.  I called the Bariatric Center in Yipsilanti and I am going this coming Monday, the 27th for the seminar/consultation with Dr. Poplawski!!
I am really excited.  My hubby worked it out that he has Sunday night off work so we will go down to Yip Sunday afternoon after church and we booked a motel down in Ann Arbor!!  So, we get away from house and kids overnight for some alone time!!  We plan on getting to the center early to sign in and then go to lunch!

I'm excited!!

Congrats on your journey, even though Im didn't go to the Bariatric Center in Ypsi. My mother did and had a wonderful experience.

I wish you nothing but the best!!!!

Thanks God for creating, Jesus for saving, and the Holy Ghost for sustaining ME!

Thanks Kells!!!  I am looking forward to going to the seminar!!  I am glad to hear of another good outcome from this place.

I have been looking at before and after profiles for RNY patients in MI and I came across a girl who posted surgery pics and there is one of her right after surgery and she has a tube coming out of her nose!!  It has red stuff in the tube and is taped to her face.    (I am panicing here.  I do not want any tubes in my nose or throat when I wake up!  I will panic.  I cannot handle the thought of that!!

Tari, I didn't have surgery in Ypsi, but when I woke up the only tube was the nasal canula with the oxygen.  No drains, nothing.  Your doctor will tell you what to expect, but I don't think that was normal.

Congratulations on making the next step in your journey!!  My fiance's daughter had surgery @ Barix and so did another friend of mine, both having great experiences!

As far as waking up with tubes coming out of your nose & stuff....LOL, they will explain everything that you will go through before you have surgery so there are no surprises (at least they did at Hurley) so you knew exactly what to expect on the day of your surgery :-)

Good luck to you!

Nan

 Hey Tari,
Didn't have my RNY there but I did use Dr. DiNick for my TT.  I ended up being there for 5 days and I'll say the nursing staff is outstanding.  I was very impressed with my experiences there and you'll love it.
Most people don't wake up with tubes, if you remember who's picture it is I'd say send her a PM and ask her about her experience.  Don't know how frequently she checks the board but it's worth a shot.  There may have been extenuating cir****tances

I had my surgery there 6 years ago. I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery. I also beg you to get the follow up plan in writing. Once the insurance check cleared for $63,000 I have had no other follow up care there. I am having severe problems now and can't find anyone that will deal with it. I make it my daily mission now. I am not sure if you read my earlier posting, short version, since the flu in early June, can not eat sold foods, throwing up enough to wi**** was an Olympic event, and gaining weight at supersonic speed. When I called out there to make an appointment I was told that I was wasting my time that their doctors were surgeons and DID NOT see patients unless they required surgery. The inpatient care is wonderful there (except the one mid night nurse that does not like people ;-) ). This has been the hardest most stressful learning experience that I would wish on no one.

Hi Tari.  I'm glad you're so excited.  I was too.  I also went to Barix in Ypsi.  Had Realize Band surgery in May.  I had a great experience there.  All of my many, many questions were always answered quickly and with good humor.  Everyone I've dealt with there has been nothing but helpful.  My surgeon (Dr. Schram) even called me at home once when I had a question about medications.  I've emailed the nutritionist several times with questions and always get a prompt, well-explained reply.  I was outpatient with the band, but I thought the nursing staff was very kind and caring both pre-op and post-op.  I've only had one fill since my surgery, but Dr. Schram answered my questions and things went really well.  I hope your experiences there are as good as mine have been.

Jan, thanks for your reply!!  I can handle the oxyen help (had that before when I was in hospital giving birth), no problem on those type of tubes!!  LOL
I am excited to go on Monday to the seminar and get a chance to ask Dr. Pop a bunch of questions!!
God Bless

Nan,
Thank you to you, too!  I really like being able to come here to ask questions!!  I know someone will help me!!
I keep hearing great things about the Barix place in Yip ~ you'rs included now!!
I know they will tell me what to expect, but in the back of my mind, I still worry, ya know?  I am worried they will tell me, "oh, no, you wont wake up with a tube down your throat" but my fear is maybe for some reason they will have to keep it in and I will panic.  I know they will do what they have to help me and keep me safe, I just haven't been able to work it through in my head yet.  I have managed to be ok with the tube in the nose , but my throat?  That's a different story.
God Bless
