I actually went to the seminar and have my medical evaluation August 5.. Now Im realize that Im REALLY going through with this after YEARS of cosideration. Now there are floods of questions that are coming through my head all day long.
# 1)  How much pain are you in after surgery and how long does it last?.... I have only had surgery once in my life and had my gall bladder removed and the laproscopic incisions seem to be in similar locations and I was in pain for a day and a half then after that just minow pain for a week or so....
#2) Do you require a lot of assistance after surgery or just someone to monitor you...( I have all sorts of support) but I will have to pick someone according to the depth of help I will need some people will better at the mental help and some are beter at the physical...(if you get my drift)
I will ask more questions pending answers of these...LOL

Hi Katrina
As far as pain I didn't have much at all I had my surgery on Tuesday and home on Wednesday by Friday I quit taking the pain medication. Help after the surgery I would guess someone to help monitor you would be nice. Remember every one is different but having the surgery at Beaumont will make all the difference in the world they have two of the best bariatic surgeons !! If there is any thing Else i can help you with just let me know

Hi Katrina!

Congrats on your decision to improve your health.  and Welcome to the MI board.  Ask away, i say!

1.  I was in moderate pain.  But mostly they keep you drugged in the hospital.  The only time after I got home that I had pain is when I didnt take it easy and overdid it.  I would just take the liquid painkiller to take the edge off.  I dont think its much worse than the surgery that you already had though.

2.  I needed minimal care and help after I got home.  I say its nice to have someone the first couple of days though.  But by weeks end, I was starting to walk five to ten minutes at a time and taking lots of naps.  So I guess if you have little ones, it would be a good idea to have someone there to tend to their needs as you concentrate on yourself and heal.

I can pretty much ditto what the others said.  I was in very little pain after surgery.  I had my surgery on a Monday afternoon.  I was off pain meds by Thursday.  Occasionaly, I would have more pain than normal but that was usually if I over did.   Mine was done laproscopic.    I required very little assistance after surgery.  My boyfriend was in and out the first day I was home (he lives next door).   But all he really did was tell me not do this or that.  As long as you have someone close by as a just incase, you should be fine being left alone.  Helps with the napping also.

Good luck - don't worry no question is a dumb question

# 1)  How much pain are you in after surgery and how long does it last?.... I just had my surgery Thursday.  The incisions are still a bit sore, but nothing major.  Probably very similar to your gb surgery.I have only had surgery once in my life and had my gall bladder removed and the laproscopic incisions seem to be in similar locations and I was in pain for a day and a half then after that just minow pain for a week or so....

I don't think I really will need anyone to be with me anymore.  In the hospital I had the nurses and they were pretty good.  Home here, well, I just don't think I'll need any help.  Someone to support my endeavors maybe, but nothing else.  Things seem to be moving along just fine.  (I've been home about 1/2 an hour now :)  )

You will find the support and information gained from this site totally awesome.  I was so glad I found it so far in advance of my surgery.  It really helped.  It was weird, because I wasn't nervous at all when my surgery date came.  Not even when I was being wheeled into the OR.  I knew by that time this was definately what I wanted and needed.  I know a lot of the potential problems too and can be somewhat ready should any of them rear their ugly heads.
Keep in touch here.  You'll learn a lot.
