did it work?
so i had a day today when it was just my son and I... so i took him to see Transformers... I am only 8 days out and I made the choice to eat some popcorn... Popcorn is a huge pitfall of mine, never should have gotten any, even for my son.... I ate at least 3/4 of the tub... how can this be?? I am totally freaking out right now... I know I have to want this... and I do.. but my understanding was that surgery was going to "make" me stop too... i felt no pain, no nothing... I honestly wonder if it can work for me... I am really in a bad place right now and could use support... :(
Everyone is different and people can eat different things...I am 6 years post op and I still can't eat pasta, bread or rice. It expands in my stomach and I hurt for hours. Sometimes I can eat popcorn and sometimes I can't, I guess it just depends on the day.
If you are worried if your procedure worked or not...call your doctor.
Best of luck,
Robin

I'm gonna be critical at this: WHAT ARE YOU DOING EATING POPCORN 8 DAYS OUT??????? Maybe I was just too scared by things but you've got to be very careful with what you're doing right now. Your entire digestive track has been altered and you've got to give it time to heal. People have had serious medical issues with pushing what they're eating. Please, please, please follow your doctor's and nut's instructions to the letter during this process. You only get 1 'honeymoon' period and it's the perfect time to make new habits stick!
Now with all that said, here's some real answers to what you just experienced:
One thing you'll learn is different foods have different densities. I LOVE watermelon! I can eat a good amount of it in a setting -- but think abou****ermelon for a second: It's mostly water so there's not much substance to take up room in the pouch. Popcorn fits into this category, while the popped kernals are big they compress to almost nothing when we eat them. Take into the fact that you were able to graze through the movie (probably 90 minutes or so) and that there's not much 'substance' to what you were eating and you get the results you got. Don't panic about it, your surgery has worked. I viewed my first 10-12 months as a 'reset' period in time where I got to relearn how to eat like a normal person.
With all that said, I'm not at the other end of the spectrum. My vice went from food to exercise. When I'm getting ready to race my triathlons or my marathons I'm trying to consume 3000+ calories a day.
I wish you well with learning about your new body and hope that you'll continue to post about your success and concerns as you venture down your journey.
