Tuesday Morning Coffee

Hey Deb .... can you tell me what kind of bike you have?  I'm contemplating a purchase and not sure which direction to go at the moment.  My best friend - who used to cycle competitively - insists I buy a pro bike and that I should spend no less than $600, which is way out of my price range.  So just want to get an idea of what others are riding before I do any serious shopping.

So anyway.... got a late start this morning.  I just couldn't drag my butt outta bed.  I love mornings when the chilly air is coming through the open window and the pitter patter of raindrops lulls you back to sleep.   But alas, I had to get up and go to work.

QOTD -- I've got Wed, Thurs and Friday off work for a mini vacation.  Thinking of going down to the Detroit Zoo one day and hitting the beach another day.  Other than that, just staying close to home and "not working".  My mom is talking about a picnic on the 4th, but not sure that's going to pan out with my siblings being poopheads lately.

Pam

There is a dinosaur exhibit going on at the Detroit zoo this summer.  We are taking Sean down late July to see it.  What started out as a mini vacation for the three of us had turned into a day trip for about 15 of us.

Would love to know what you think of it if you see it.

I've actually had 2 separate trips to the zoo planned with groups and both got cancelled, so I'm not just going to go alone and enjoy the day at my leisure.  Mostly I'm heading down as a photography walking tour to see what good shots I can get with my camera.  I read about the dino exhibit and plan to check that out too.   Should be fun.

Hi Pam,
Glad you are interested in riding! I love bike riding. I currently ride a Trek road bike. It is a "women's specific" bike which makes it much more comfortable for women and it certainly is. Women's bikes have a shorter top tube so you don't over-extend to reach the handlebars, narrower handle bars, and a shorter crank shaft (where the pedals are attached). It also has a women's seat.
Now is a great time for bike shopping as it is the end of the season for most bike shops.  Please look at bike shops rather than a department stores (Huffy's) as they can direct you to a bike that fits your needs (with biking, the bike makes a big difference) and can find something in your price range. They will also make sure that you have a proper fit (don't buy from a shop that won't help you fit your bike).
Let me know what you decide.
I ride alone and I also ride with a group of women every Friday that are all ages... I love it because I don't have to pay a "green fee" everytime I go out.

Thanks Deb.  I am going to hit a couple shops this week to see what I can find.  Since surgery I've been saving a few dollars every week for a "clothing fund" -- shopping spree for when I hit my goal weight.  But since I seem to be finding a bunch of great buys at Goodwill I think I'm going to use that fund for a bike instead.

As much as I love my walking workouts, it's getting boring and I need something else that'll keep my interest.  When I get bored, I tend to quit and I don't want to let that happen.

I'll let you know what I decide.  :-)

If you are looking for a great leisure bike try looking at the Electra Townie 3.. my DH bought me one a couple of months after my surgery and I LOVE IT!!!! It is comfortable, relaxing and very easy to ride....Just do a google search for them.. I got mine at Continental Bike Shop in Hazel Park and they actually have layaway and I paid it off within a month and a half.. It was a great deal.

Hi Pam!

I just loaned the youngest DD $2500 for her new bike.  We started out looking for an aluminum bike, than moved on to aluminum/carbon for around $1000.  Than she found a carbon bike.  Took some doing but finally came across the right size and 15% off.  She has always been a great kid.  Of the three she always pays me back.  (Granted Mom spends lots on her that isn't a loan!)

She is riding from Lansing to DC as part of a bike awareness thing.  So she really needs something comfortable for the 17 day ride.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

Pam,

I know all about poophead siblings, I had my fill of them this last couple weeks. Your right they aren't any fun.

Enjoy the Zoo and have a great weekend with or without them.

Morning All!!

I had decaf tea with a shot of protein this morning..........yummy!!!

QOTD ~ I'm not sure of my plans yet but my family is bound to have a BBQ at my Aunt's house. My hubby and I are trying to prepare the kids rooms for their return next week. They are currently in GA but we promised them a "room change" when they returned. So my week will be busy and I'm sure the weekend would too.
When nothing else could help................LOVE lifted me!!!!
