Frustrated

So I'm 2 weeks post op.  I lost 17lbs pre op and have lost another 12lbs post op.  I think I've done pretty good.  My problem is I'm still wearing the same clothes I wore pre op.  And some of those are TIGHT!!!!  I don't see a difference in my apperance, but my husband says he does.  I would have thought that after nearly 30lbs I'd be able to wear a dress size smaller.  Its really getting to me, sometimes I think this was a bad idea to have the surgery, seeings how its not making a difference.  To top it all off I haven't lost anything for 6 days.  I know its normal, but it still sucks.

Just letting it all out.  Thanks

Tressa,

It will all come together.  I haven't lost anything in over a year, but I continue to drop sizes.  Last summer I wore a 18-20, I just ordered 16's.

Your frustration will pass and your weight loss will continue to drop.

Hope to meet you at the next support group meeting.

I know you want to drop overnight.  But, that isn't how you got to the point of needing WLS.  You are only 2 weeks out!  Even though you dropped 12 pounds, you are most likely swelled from the surgery.  I looked pregnant for a week or two after surgery.  I too felt like you after a 30 pound lose.  But, when I dropped (after all the swelling was gone) 10 pounds, I went from 26/28 to 22/24 with only another 10 pound loss and to a 20/22 after another 10 pounds.  Be patient, it will come.

Good Luck!

 Thanks.  I guess I'm a little impatient.

Hey Tressa!

Congrats on almost 30lbs.  You're doing great!

I didn't switch clothing sizes until I'd lost about 50lbs.  And even then I was still able to wear many of my larger sizes for another 20lbs or so.  And I didn't SEE a difference until about 3 or 4 months post-op.

Pictures help in that regard... so make sure you're doing some formal pictures on a regular basis.  I did the 365 face picture project (1 picture of my face every day for a year) and could see the difference that way over time.  I also do full-body front-back-side pictures about every month or two.  So often we don't see the change when we look in the mirror and the only way to see it is through photos.

And don't worry about the stall.  At 2 weeks out, it's normal.  Your body needs to figure out what the heck you just did and find a way to move passed the trauma.  The scale will move again soon.

Tressa,

It will happen you just give it time - I agree you are still swollen.  Keep drinking your water and don't worry it will happen.

You're on a great journey -- but there's going to be many ups and downs.  Remember that you've radically redone your guts.  Losing 12 pounds in 8 days is MAJOR!!!!  Plus you've got to figure that while you were in the hospital you probably gained a couple of pounds with the IV fluids.  Stick with your program and have patience.  Many of the statistics we're given pre-op are where patients are 18 months post-op.
Keep with the program and you'll be a success, besides it's really too late to 'undue' the surgery.  embrace life and all the joys that WLS will hopefully bring to you.

You are most probably still swollen.  Don't worry about sizes-you will find that one day everything fits, and the next day it hangs from you like rags.  Just keep on doing what you are supposed to do and let the sizes fall where they may (literally).

Hi there.  First of all I would like to congratulate you on your weight loss sucess so far.  I am new to the forum and just starting on my journey for wls.  I am also going to have Dr Cujoe perform my surgery.  If you don't mind I have a couple of questions for you.  I guess my first question would be were you happy with Dr Cujoe and his staff?  And how long did it take you before from your seminar to the surgery?  I went to the seminar a week or so ago and have turned in all my paperwork to their office, including my cardiac clearance.  I have my psyc eval next week then it is all about waiting for the drs office to call me.
I have also heard that the liquid diet is anywhere from 1-2 weeks prior to the surgery, depending on what dr you go to.  How long is it with Dr Cujoe and do you have any advice for getting through this?
I am sure I will have a ton of questions as I get closer to having the surgery and hope I do not drive everyone crazy with them.

Thank you very much!!

Michele

I love Dr. Cudjoe.  I think hes a little shy at first, but as he gets to know you he starts to joke around with you.  I went to a Seminar last May, while I was still pregnant.  I turned my paperwork in Jan 31 09 and had a call about a week later to have my first appointment with the Doc.  I would have got in sooner but I had to wait until I was 6 months out from have my C-Section.  It also took like 6 weeks to get my appointment for psych and the follow up.  After everything was turned in I had appointment on April 10th I got my date (assuming everything went well with the Endo).  I had my endo on the 27th of April and then met with Cudjoe on May 8th to get the results.  At that time I was scheduled for pre-op nutrition and my time of surgery was scheduled.  I was originally scheduled to have the RYN May 19th.  After talking to Tammy (shes the nurse who coordinates everything) I decided to have the VSG (vertical gastric sleeve)  I was Dr. Cudjoe's first.  I had to wait another 2 weeks!  I started the 10 day pre-op diet on the 9th of May for surgery on the 19th.  I then went off it and started it back up a week later.  The pre-op diet isn't that bad.  Luckily we don't have to go on an all liquid diet.  We get to have all the vegetables we want!  And then 4 oz of lean protein.....turkey, chicken, eggs, cheese....and of course protein drinks and sugar free, carbonated free and caffeine free drinks.  I lost most of my weights so far just eating like that.  17lbs in 10 days!  If only I had the will power to eat like that all the time!  LOL  I would highly recommend Dr. Cudjoe to anyone.  He is a great surgeon.  If you have any more questions feel free to ask.  I'll do my best and answer them all.
