Beaumont Weight Loss/ Bariatric Support Groups?
Has anyone had any experience with the Beaumont Weight Loss Clinic and their bariatric support groups?
My surgeon is no longer in the area and I was looking for a program to get involved in to be more accountable to myself. CORI Centers no longer exists. Beaumont seems to have a couple of different support groups. I called today and left my number to get info. At least they would be close to my home.
If you have experienced it, what are the costs and was it worth it?

Gav,
I went to the Beaumont Weight Loss Center in Troy(14 and Coolidge) for about 2 years. I found it was very helpful to hear other peoples struggles and good experiences. We all have the same issues just some of us are more vocal than others.
The only complaint I have...one of the leaders always talked down to the group and that really bothered me. I think the group meets the 3rd Tues of the month, call to make sure.
St Marys Hospital in Livonia also has a support group and I am hearing good things about it
Best of luck,
Robin

I had my surgery at Henry Ford, but can not go there any more because my insurance changed, so I started at Beaumont Weight Control Center. It was very much worth my while. They have been helping me get off these last 10 pounds. My insurance has paid for most things. I had to pay for the dieticien consult, and the DEXA scan and I met with the psychologist. I like the physician as well. I have lost 5 pounds. It never hurts to get more information. It was VERY much worth it. Being 5 years out, it is easy to lose that accountability that we had when we were just out of surgery and COULD not eat as much. Now that it is up to us to control the food, any way that we can be accountable, is always good. Good Luck.
For the support groups, what does Beaumont Weight Loss Clinic charge? I called them and someone is supposed to get back to me with some answers. I have BCBSM PPO insurance, so I don't know what would be covered, since I already had surgery. I really like the sound of their various support groups and I think it might help me get back on track. I'm just concerned I may have stretched the pouch out over time and may have damaged it.
I have taken the steps to getting back to protein shakes. I'm now doing 2 per day and plan to increase it over the next few weeks.

I do not know if they charge for the support groups, they offered it to me as a transfer patient, but I did not request the information. I started out by making an appointment with their Medical Doctor (not bariatric surgeon), and my insurance paid for that, and then we went from there with labs that he wanted and other stuff. It has been very helpful for me.
While I have not been to a support group meeting since January. I had my surgery at Beaumont and Loved the support groups. I plant to start attending again soon. I think the costs for meetings there is around $20 or $25 but I am not sure. I paid the one time $800 fee to have services, from the clinic, for life with no further fees. I use the gym with trainers, get my check ups, (I do have to pay for lab work) and see my nutritionist free of any other charges as well.

Nick,
I'm thinking about jumping ship and going to your Dr's office. I heard he had gbs too, is that correct?
What's their name, number and location.
Thanks,
Edie
