Sunday-I give in!
Hi Brenda,
Its mid afternoon now here. And its so nice outside. Me and the kids are wading in the little pool cuz DH is still working on our big pool. I am getting some sun and just vegging.
My rant is that I really need to be my own advocate for knowing which meds throw off my blood sugars. You tell a new doc "hey, I am a type I insulin dependent diabetic" and they still give you meds that raise your sugar. I need to make a call into the office tomorrow to see what else they can give me.
anyways, thats all my griping today.

Hi everyone!
Brenda - sorry to hear that you dumped. It sounds miserable. I don't think I've dumped yet, but I had been getting sick often....like 3-4 times a week up until a week or so ago. I think I finally figured out how to SLOW DOWN and take smaller bites! I'd get those foamies and feel so much better after 'getting the food out'....I'm assuming this is not dumping and I'll know it if I do dump :-)
My rant.....oh, I've got a good one. This just drives me crazy. My son, who is 17 takes at least two showers a day and I swear he dirties every towel in the house. Sometimes I'll go in the bathroom after he has showered and he has a couple of towels waded up and thrown on the flour. Who needs 2 towels after they shower...well us girls do - one to wrap around our hair and one to wrap around our body, but he's a guy! I swear, he goes through so many towels. I told him I was going to start rationing the number of towels he can use in a week or he can start doing the laundry! Drives me nuts......
Three more days and all the girls in my family (mom, sisters, SIL's, neice, daughter) are all going to NYC!! I can't wait! We are going to see Mama Mia while we are there. I'm just looking forward to a vacation :-)

I'm so jealous. I love NYC. We were there for a couple of days in September, but I hadn't had my foot surgery yet and it was hard for me to do all the walking, I was in too much pain. Two days weren't enough...need a week to see and do everything we wanted.
I thought dumping was throwing up...it's not? Dumping is just feeling pain in the pouch and feeling crappy?? i hope someone lets me know.

Hi Jan
For me, I think my throwing up was the foamies. It's like you eat too fast or too big of bites and you feel awful...like you want to throw up to get the food out. But when you throw up, it's like all bubbly spit (i know that sounds gross, but it is :-) Once you get done, you instantly feel better. (at least I did). And that was happening a lot with me just because I think I was eating too big of bites and not chewing good enough.
I think of dumping as when you eat something with too much sugar or fat, although I know you can dump on other stuff. But from what I 've read, dumping is when you get like hot flashes and your heart starts beating real fast and you feel like you could throw up or have diahriha (sp) and just feel awful....and you have to just lay down and wait it out.
Someone who's dumped (Brenda :-) can hopefully clairfy if this is correct or not??
We are going for 4 days and planning to see a lot.

Just like everything else with WLS, dumping is unique to each person. I never had foamies, but I threw up A LOT the first year post op. It wasn't unpleasant, I would just get a stomach ache after eating, I'd run to the toilet and kind of "push" the food out. Afterwards I would feel fine and could eat again shortly after. (I am so sorry if this is TMI)
The few times I have dumped, I just got kind of sweaty and had a horrible sharp pain in my pouch. Some times I sort of "pre-dump" where I'll just get a little dizzy feeling and I know I need to watch it. I wish I knew what happened last night. I took 2 bites of my son's Lucky Charms (Hey! Don't judge me!) I have had lots of things with more sugar, and not had a problem. I do know the combo of sugar/fat makes me feel sick. Like baked goods (donuts, etc.) I'm glad those make me sick so I can stay away from them! Anyway, no one can tell you before surgery what your dumping is going to be like.
Besides dumping, there are some foods that just don't sit right. I have read that some people can never eat poultry, or beef, or lettuce, etc. You just don't know how your body is going to react. This is one of the HUGE changes you have to be ready for. You have to grasp that you might wake up and suddenly be lactose intolerant. What will you do then?
Just some more things to think about......

Thanks Brenda, I can never get TMI. I'm almost hoping certain things will make me sick. I think there's nothing worse than throwing up so I'll do almost anything to avoid it. If it means totally giving up sweet things I'll do it. I'm hoping that I'm not one of those people that can eat anything after WLS. I want to be restricted not only on how much I eat, but what I can eat.
Whatever happens, I'll deal with it.

Good EVENING! It's 9:45 PM. Getting ready to go to bed. We went to two graduation open houses this weekend, but other than that, we stayed at home and got a few things done.
I have a rant but it's really my own fault. I got up Friday and made scrambled eggs and toast. Ate it. Was fine. Well, later that day, we were running errands and AJ wanted to get something to eat. So we ran through a Burger King drive thru and I ordered a Whopper Jr. I literally ate 2 bites and was VERY uncomfortable after that. I had food stuck....somewhere. The rest of the day I couldn't eat or drink anything. By the evening, I was miserable. I figured it was the whopper Jr. that was causing the problem. Well, as it turned out, by about midnight, I had thrown up about 3 times. Finally, up came the eggs and I was fine. I felt like a "new" post-op patient, not someone who is almost 4 years post-op. But it's good to have one of those types of issues every once in a while....keeps things in perspective! I just hope it doesn't happen again anytime soon. Scared my hubby, because he was afraid we would have to go to the hospital and he just didn't see how that was going to work with him not being able to drive and the baby and all that. It all worked out, though!
Sleep well, tonight! Tina
