My surgery date is set with Dr. Wayne English in Marquette MI

I am scheduled to have my VSG surgery with Dr. Wayne English at Marquette General Hospital on July 27th, 2009.

I am very ready for this surgery but today I was actually bummed out a little knowing I will never be able to eat the way I have or drink an alcoholic drink they way I have.  The more I think about it however the more I realize that it is those vices that got me where I am today and it is time for change.

Anyway, wish me luck and I will keep you posted.

Congratulations on getting your date.  I hear you about knowing you'll never be able to eat the same, but as you said, that's what got you in this situation.  Since my surgery isn't until August 10th I'm still falling back into my bad habits sometimes.  I start the day making good decisions, and end it on a bad note.
Can't wait to hear your successes.

Congrats on your surgery date!

You have to start using the mind set that you have lived one way and now you going to live your life a new way . . . a healthy way.  I think that I'm weird sometimes because there is so much I can't eat . . but even though I was a food junkie I wouldn't change my new life for anything - and you to will feel the same way.
And your right it's those little voices that got us all into trouble in the first place.

Good luck to you and will be watching your progress!

Congratulations on getting your date and good luck with your surgery!  I went through months of eating everything I could get my hands on before surgery just because I thought I could never eat it again.  I actually gained 6 lbs in my 6 month supervised diet required for insurance.  But now that I 've had the surgery, I don't miss the feeling of feeling stuffed ALL of the time.  I do miss some food and still have some of the head hunger for things like sweets and pizza, etc but I feel so much healthier and better than I did when I was gorging myself....and trust me I was.  I would eat and be so full, but still keep putting food in my mouth because ate all the time...out of emotion.

You'll do great!

Trick for me will be to find foods that don't bore me and taste good.  Eating the same thing over and over can get old.  Of course I mean  out of the first two stages of course.

Howdy fellow Yooper!  I had a VSG in March.  Not with Dr. English though.  (long story)  I still enjoy my favorite foods though, just much less.  I fill up much faster and get that satisfied full feeling.  You don't have issues with dumping syndrome like they do with other WLS.  There really isn't anything I can't eat (as far as tolerance) but I am eating much healthier and, with this surgery, I mave much better control.  I'm very happy with it.  There is a VSG board too if you haven't already checked it out.  (I live 30 miles west of the Soo.)
Jeremiah 29:11-13 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.  Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.  And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Congrats on your surgery! I love Marquette, I was born up there. As you go through this transformation you will find the foods you used to love are just OK now. I used to eat pizza all the time but now 3 years out I could care less if I have it or not. When I get a craving believe it or not, its for veggies.....how weird! Congrats on your journey and go have a Superior sub before you go under the knife! (kidding) I  also went to MNU !!!

Good luck
