West Michigan Support Group?
Hi Lisa,
There is not any formal DS support group -- unfortunately. The number of DSers is growing in the G.R. area though, so hopefully we will get enough people interested soon!
In the mean time, there are several of us that get together informally usually when an occasion comes up. If you would like me to let you know when these get togethers happen, just let me know.
There is a group of us meeting in Lansing next Monday, June 15th, at 6:30pm. Gina (MajorMom -- she posts on the DS & Lightweights forum mostly) will be in town, so we are going to get together for dinner. You are more than welcome to join us!
I think that meeting DSers in person is such a great idea prior to surgery. I didn't know one other person prior to my surgery, and I think that had I met some of the people that I know now, it would have made a lot more sense!

Highest Known Weight = 370# / 59.7 bmi @ 5'6"
Current Weight = 168# / 26.4 bmi : fluctuates 5# either way @ 5'7" / more than 90% EWL
Normal BMI (24.9) = 159#: would have to compromise my muscle mass to get here without plastics, so this is not a goal.

There are several general bariatric support group that meet in Grand Rapids some that are part of Grand Health Partners. I know that Beth Rogers leads a support group on Leonard Street once a month.- the 3rd Thursday of the month. She is a patient who has been a great success model and spokesperson for Grand Health Partners- They should provide you with a list- I do know that most support groups welcome pre- op patients to attend meeting as well..
