Need Help, Skin Removal Surgery with BCBS
I'm now 2 years post-op, I've lost a total of 179 lbs. I went from a size 26 to a size 6. But here's the horror of it all, BCBS will only cover $5000 dollars worth of Skin Removal Surgery, and I got a estimate of $18,000 worth of surgery I need. I'm so frustrated because although I've lost the weight, I still have to cover up and still is unable to enjoy the new me to the fullest because of this unwanted skin. I have rashes between the folds of skin, I constantly have to shower or bath to minimize any type of BO from trapped dirt or water between the folds of skin. Honestly, I don't know what's worst the weight, or the excessive skin. It's like a nightmare to me. I feel BCBS have played a cruel trick on me. I was under the impression that they will automatically approve the process once you achieve your goal weight. This is really playing into my self-esteem, and making me quiet depress. When I wear sleeveless, or strapless tops, everyone looks and notice the skin drooping from my fore and upper arms, I've even had people make comments. Also, shorts or skirts above the knees, I can forget about. I'm just so embarass, and I don't think this right. Can someone please help me with this.
Unfortunately, most all insurance companies will NOT pay for skin removal, except possibly a tummy tuck, if you have lots of rashes, etc.
They consider anything else "cosmetic surgery" and it's not covered.
Shop around and see if you can't find a surgeon who, knowing you would be "self pay", would give you a better price,
It's too bad when we work so hard to get thinner, then have all
the hanging skin.
Congratulations on the excellent job of taking your wt off.
