I have just been told that my surgery has failed, by my boyfriend (husband) and I am starting to believe that he might be telling the truth!! I had gotten down to my ideal weight and than had a set of twins and gained 60pds that I haven't been able to get raid of for the last 2yrs and I am starting to become really scared.  I dont know what to do, maybe it has failed!!!

The surgery doesn't cure your obesity, it only gives you a tool to help manage your food intake.   I would recommend going back to your basics of eating (moderation, protein first, etc.)  and exercise.  It's easy to blame the surgery but in reality you should be looking at your choices, eating habits, and ultimately yourself.  If you cannot remember the basics of eating, I would recommend visiting the nutritionist you consulted with after your surgery.

Unless your boyfriend is board certified, I would suggest a medical opinion.  Check with another bariatric surgeon ( I think yours is in New York now) and ask them to evaluate your body functions.  If your boyfriend (husband) is board certified, I suggest a second opinion from a different doctor.

Best wishes.

Yeah, I would brush off those comments quickly. You're boyfriend is not qualified to make such judgements. It's not the surgery that is failing. It's a tool, not a cure. I agree with the above comments, start keeping a diet diary, limit your portion sizes, drink your water and start exercising.

I know I have had another surgery and I'm not very far out.  But, I have lived the fat life a long time.  What you might want to think about is;  If you hadn't had the surgery,  what would you weigh now.  After each child I had, I lost the weight but with in month my body went back up to the deliver wieght and stayed.  In the two years that you have maintained the 60 pounds, with out surgery that may have gone to 80 or even 100.  Plus what that 60 to 100 could be on top of what ever you are still down from before surgery.

I'm not saying you can't loss that 60, I think the above posters have given you sound RNY advise to get going on it.  I wanted just wanted to give you another way to look at this (from a woman that has lived life and child bearing.)  Please don't think you have failed!  Keep pluging on!

Thank You for all your comments.  I would like to say that since I have had the twins I have gained 60pds and getting back to the 197 seems to be a dream!  I had surgery in 2004 so Aug. of this year I will be 5yrs post op and I wanted advise on how other women that have had children have been able to get back down to their Ideal weight.  I have started drinking protien shakes again, but its really hard here to get what I could normally get in the US easy.  As far as Exercise goes I walk daily being in the UK its a must.  In the past month I have resulted to almost total not eating, because I don't want the weight back on and I have been told to start over, meaning to remember what rules I was given after surgery and start there.

What do you think, I must say I am scared........

Did you post your question on the WLS & pregnancy boards?  You might get the help you need there.

ps. My youngest DD gained weight while she was in the UK.  The other students from there couldn't figure out, they see America as the place of fat.  She just couldn't afford or get the food she needed to keep her weight down.  It didn't take her long to get it off after she got back to the States and got back to her old eating patterns.
