So umm who did you use,
for plastic surgery?? I'm now looking for a surgeon in or near southeast Michigan. There are not a lot of plastic surgeons registered with this site (in MI). I know about the P/S forum but I just figured I'd start here.. I have just a few questions:
1. Does your surgeon have hospital privileges? if so with what hospital?
2. Did you like your result? Was it what you expected?
3. Did she/he do what you discussed in your consult?
4. How was the staff?
If there is a website for your Dr. please post it or inbox me..
Thank you, Rea

I wouldn't choose a surgeon based on what you see here. All you have to do to get on OH is pay the fee. It's more or less just advertising, so do some more research (which I can see that you are doing).
Here's my answers for the surgeon that did my TT in February. Dr. Amy Alderman
1. Does your surgeon have hospital privileges? if so with what hospital? Yes, with U of M
2. Did you like your result? Was it what you expected? Yes I am happy with my lower TT, but not happy with the big bump she left on top. This was NOT expected.
3. Did she/he do what you discussed in your consult? No.
4. How was the staff? Nursing wasn't up to par in the hospital. The nurses were always having a "situation" and telling me to be patient, they would get to me when the could.

I NEVER do anything without research... I need to know what to expect lol... You know the worst that could happen...
Is your Dr going to do any retouching (you know for the bump)?
Did she tell you that the "bump" could happen?
How long has she been in practice?
I understand some things can't be foreseen,(like the bump and the nursing staff) but would you recommend her to your family?
And thank you for your response..

I don't want to bash my doc, but I would not recommend her to a friend or family. I made it really clear that I was unhappy with not only the apron part (the "overhang") but with the large bump or "smooshy belly" as I like to call it, over top of it. I had two big areas of fat and hanging skin and she said she would remove the apron and "pull down" the rest so I would have a flat tummy. On the morning of surgery I grabbed the handful of skin on my upper abdomen and asked if that was going to be gone. She said it would be, for the most part. She also said what I wasn't happy with she would lipo when everything settled.
After surgery it was very clear that the large uppper part was still there. At my 6 week follow up visit I asked her about it and she said it was getting nice outside so I should try to exercise more, and that lipo was not a possibility. She acted like we had never talked about my issue with that area. When ever I tried to remind her of what we talked about in the consult, she just kept saying "Yay! You really are recovering well!" She has been in practice for a long time and is really respected at U of M. She has a great bedside manner, but I think she wasn't very interested in hearing what I really wanted or what I thought the outcome of surgery would be.
I have a friend that had a TT before mine and is really thrilled with her doc. Hopefully she'll post or I can PM you the name of her doc.

Thank you so much! Yes I would love for you to PM me with the Dr's info.. But I get what your saying she should have done lipo with the TT.. If that was a problem area she should have addressed this during first surgery.. I don't think your bashing just giving your honest opinion..

I am a big fan of Dr. Sayeg....he is on the Michigan page as an advertiser. He specializes in Bariatric Surgery. He has two offices in detroit. My girlfriend just had her arms and breasts done...she can't speak highly enough of him. I also have girlfriends that have had work done with him that have NOT had WLS surgery and they pick him as surgeon of choice. Worst case...have a consult. Tell him Laura Preston sent you in
Good Luck...let us know who you visit and your impressions!

I had Dr. DiNick over at Barix in Ypsilanti.
1. Does your surgeon have hospital privileges? if so with what hospital? Yes, with Barix. I believe he also does some things out of Providence but I'm not sure on that one.
2. Did you like your result? Was it what you expected?
Yes I've been happy with my results so far. I am hoping the scar fades significantly though (it's only been 6 months so I know it's too early to know for sure)
3. Did she/he do what you discussed in your consult?
Yes, did everything he said. I had the horizontal and vertical incisions to deal with the upper abdomen skin.
4. How was the staff? Unbelievable!!!! I had some issues and ended up being at the hospital for 6 days. All the nurses were incredible and very helpful the entire time.
I love my results but did have some complications. Would I do it again -- probably but I'm not so sure. As the surgery is further in the past and the recovery progresses I'm able to really enjoy the results.
I think my problem was that even though I went into the plastic surgery knowing it was major surgery I still grossly underestimated just how serious this surgery can be. Going into WLS surgery many of us understand that without it we will have major medical issues. Going into plastics many of us have lost a tremendous amount of weight and lead a healthy. I had run a marathon 2 months before surgery and expected an easier recovery process. I never expected needing to have a blood transfusion or being in the hospital 6 days.
For me the recovery process was just slow and I had drainage tubes in for a long time -- 8 weeks. Annoying, but not the worse thing.
I'm now completely recovered and progressing nicely on my training to doing triathlons and marathons again.
I can't over emphasis to not take this surgery lightly!! With that said, it wasn't until after the TT that I can look in the mirror and see someone who's lost 200 pounds. I never thought that the TT would have the drastic effects it has.
As far as DiNick, he's a perfectionist who i've been very happy with. Him and Barix really equals a great, winning combination.
Good luck!
