help my bowels are moving!!!
I'm going to give you the short version (yes trust me this is the short version LOL). I've had a bad cold in Jan./ Feb. and the coughing never really went away, so I saw my PCP and she did a chest xray which showed a "mass" in my upper r quadrant of my abdomen, she thought that may be pushing on my lung and causing me to cough. She thought it was my diaphragm slipping or a hernia, so then Ihad a CT scan, in which the diagnosis was persistent cough, hx of breast cancer (for the insurance co), the radiologist saw a mass in my left lung, and then barely looked at or talked about my abdomen. I talked to my surgeon and he said they see something, but it's not very impressive and since I'm not having any symptoms besides the coughing which could be because of the mass in my lung, we're going to let it be and take care of my lung, which in now the primary concern.
I've been having allot of tests for that, but that's not why I'm writing, so I'm going to skip all of that crap.
Fast forward to last Monday. After a step workout I got a stabbing pain in my back left side. It felt like a rib slipped out of place (that has happened to me before), I could feel the cartilage crackling/shifting with deep breaths. It was pretty painful. I tried stretching on my work out ball, laid on the floor and had hubby try to crack my back back in place, tried some manual therapy stretches I've learned over the years.....I came to work Tue morning and asked a therapist to look at me (I work at a Physical Therapy clinic). She could not find anything wrong with me, she said my spine was in tack. She did try allot of techniques and was able to stop the stabbing, but not the discomfort.
Let me step in here and tell you that I also have a cold right now too, so that doesn't help with coughing, sneezing... Forward to yesterday, I went to my PCP because the pain in my back left rib area was still uncomfortable and by now I'm thinking ok, if it's not my rib, maybe it is my lung. She was at a loss with what to do with me because of the lung situation, so she called my pulmonologist who is going to see me this afternoon, but wanted her to do another chest xray while I was there yesterday.
The chest xray came back showing my bowel coming up into the area of my left lung and that could be causing me the pain when I take a breath (the bowel may be squeezing my lung).
So I will be going back to the surgeon for a more definite answer, but I still have these masses in my lung that are going to be a priority, because of my breast cancer history.
What I'm asking (I know finally) is this. Has anyone else had their bowels move around???
What did they do? Did you have to have surgery? Did it solve the issue, or is this going to be my life?
Please don't lecture me about seeing my surgeon today, I will be seeing him. I just want to know if anyone has heard of this and what was done.
Thanks for listening,
Edie

I'm having a Bronchoscopy Wednesday to find out what was going on with my lungs. The same day I'm dropping off my chest x ray's at the surgeons office so he can look at 2 CT scans 4 weeks apart and 2 chest x rays 6 weeks apart to see if my bowel has moved/shifted around. Hopefully next week will be full of answers for me!
Again thanks,
Edie

I'm not going to be much help, but want to wish your well. I hope you find a speedy recovery.
From what I remember from anatomy, bowels can slip thru any hernia. Rather it is in the groin area or abdomen. In your case you have a hernia in the diaphragm allowing the bowel to slip thru and press on your lungs.
I'm sure some one will correct me if my memory has failed.
