Wow you are almost my neighbor. I grew up in Gun Lake and still go there to see my family. First of all you have to be so very proud of yourself. You lost 150 pounds that is awesome, AWESOME. Second you only gained 10 pounds. Third look at what have you been doing differently, going to fast food, skipping meals, write down what you have been eating and that should help you. Don't be so hard on your self. I am seeking the surgery, I just had my psych eval and am waiting approval. I am new on here but message me and I would be glad to give you my number and talk to you more. Veronica

I've seen lots of people on here that have the same surgeon.  Hopefully they will check in.

Jodi, the first thing you need to do is take control.

You have only gained 10 pounds and you are doing something about it, so pat yourself on the back and stop beating yourself up.  You can use us as a support group until you find the real  thing-( I mean live because we on the board are real too!)  Go back to basics, review the RNY rules on the RNY board, start journeling, start exercising, and start sending yourself positive messages instead of negative ones.

You have hit a little bump, not a major mountain, and you can handle it.

Hi Jodi -

First ... take a deep breath.  There is no need to panic or freak out.  You need a clear head and a specific plan.  You've lost 150 pounds... you already KNOW what you need to do.  You just need to stop letting your emotions and bad habits take over and take control of your life and make the changes you want to see.  So here's the plan...

1 -- MAKE A LIST --- write down your specific goals.  If you want to lose 10lbs, then write that down.  If you want to finish a 5k race, get that on the list too.  If you want to clear the house of crappy food or figure out how to get your labs drawn or buy new running shoes or fit into a certain size jeans... get it all on the list.  An old saying that I love.... "It's only a dream until you write it down, THEN it becomes a goal that can be achieved."

2 -- MAKE A FOOD PLAN --- pull out your old nutrition information from right after surgery and read it.  Then make another list of exactly what you're going to do with  your new way of eating.  BACK TO BASICS -- you know the rules, you know how to use your tool, so do it.

* Protein first and always (80-100g/day).

* Moderation with carbs (no white stuff - focus on veggies, fruit and whole grains to get your carbohydrate needs of about 100-120g/day and enough fiber to keep the digestive tract working properly)

* Get enough good fats in your diet.

* Get all your water each day 64oz min

* No drinking with meals or for 30-90 minutes after meals

* Track every morsel of food that passes your lips.  You can't know how to adjust your intake unless you know where you are starting from.  Figure out where your calories need to be and stick to it 90% of the time.

* Plan your meals and eat on a schedule.  I still follow the hour-by-hour schedule that Hurley gave us before surgery.  3 meals, 3 snacks pre-planned and eaten at specific times during the day and water intake between to curb hunger and grazing tendencies.

* Be a religious fanatic about your vitamins and supplements.

3 -- MAKE AN EXERCISE PLAN --  Exercise your butt off.  If you're not sweating like a pig, you're not working hard enough.  Find a workout buddy or join a gym or aerobics class.

4 -- FIND A SUPPORT GROUP -- Lean on others for support when you're not strong enough to do it on your own.  Eventually you will become strong enough and then you can be the support person that someone else relies on down the road.    In-person support groups are invaluable because you see face-to-face the people who are going through exactly what you're going through too.  Get involved and don't miss a single meeting.  (I attend 3 per month.)

5 -- LABS & FOLLOW UP -- I understand that you lost your job and don't have insurance, so follow up and getting labs drawn might be tough right now.  If you have to save your pennies until you can afford to get labs done, do it.  However, look into the new Stimulus Package benefits for COBRA.  It will pay 65% of the COBRA premiums for you and you can still sign up for the benefits up to 60 days after losing your job to sign up... so if you still have time, it's worth looking into.

6 -- BE KIND TO YOURSELF -- right now it is so important to be kind to yourself.  Stop calling yourself names or berate yourself for stumbling.  Negative self talk is destructive and uncalled for -- stop it right now!  Speak kindly to yourself, focus on the good things you've done -- you lost 150 freaking pounds for crying out loud!!  Make a list of your WOW moments and keep adding to it as you experience more.  Love yourself enough to live your most healthy life.
