IM GOING TO DIE!!!!!!!!
OMG I STARTED THE TWO WEEK LIQUID DIET YESTERDAY AND OMG I DONT KNOW HOW IM GOING TO DO THIS EVERYTHING IS SO GROSS IN THE KIT THAT I HAVE TO STICK TO THE SOUP AND THE FIBER DRINK BOTH MADE ME THROW UP THEY SMELL LIKE EMPTY MEDICINE BOTTLES THE SHAKES THE HAVE ARE SO GRITTY I CAN HACK THEM IF I CHUG WATER DOWN RIGHT AFTER BUT IM NOT SURE I CAN DO THIS FOR 2 WEEKS GOING TO BE THE HARDEST THING IVE EVER DONE EVEN TOPS QUIT SMOKING!!!!!!!
Do you have to use what's in the kit, or can you buy some others? I got some of the EAS already to drink shakes and put them in my magic bullet with ice and they're really not too bad. I don't have a problem drinking them. Of course I psyche myself out by saying I've got no choice, so just grin and bear it or try to enjoy it. It's worth the trouble.
The first shake I had was gross as well. I learned that if I premade them and then let them soak in the fridge it tasted A LOT BETTER.
I used water bottles I measured out the right amount of FF/skim milk (I used 10oz instead of 8oz-btw) added the powder put the lid on and then shook them until mixed. Then I put them in the fridge, usually at night so I'd have them all day, and re shook them before drinking and they were a LOT smoother and no grit to them. I think they are better really cold. Plus in the water bottle I couldn't smell what I was drinking, but oddly enough I like them now. I haven't gotten all of them in like I should so I have 5 extra packs of pudding shakes now for post surgery.
But I thought the first one I had tasted like warm cereal left overs of cocoa puffs, and all that was left was nasty cereal bits. But chilling and pre-mixing really, really helps.
As for the fruit punch drinks (I assume you have) I did NOT measure out the water. I used a 20oz bottle of water added the fruit punch mix and also added a crystal light fruit punch mixer with it and shook it up and drank it. OMG it is so good like that! I kid you not! It tastes like a sinful fruit punch drink. I actually like it better than just the crystal light alone!
If you have a different flavor of fiber drink then find a crystal light that might compliment it and mix it up the same way.
The soups, be SURE to use chicken broth or beef broth (lowered sodium) with your soup and no****er. That was the nutritionists suggestion and I liked the soups just fine.
Jani- Yes this is a strict diet kit Hurley has us pay and use for pre-op. We are allowed "extra" foods like very few and specific vegetables (carrots, celery, cucumbers and more), we can have broths, and crystal light, SF jello-o, SF popsicles, yogurt smoothies, and some other stuff. But they have this diet kit that is designed to help you lose weight lower sugars and BP, and whatever else, as well as make more money I am sure. ;)
But yes it's strict.
Tomorrow I start the final drink for the whole day and since I've had more leeway with the diet kit I am hoping this final drink is ok and not nasty.
Good Luck Sl1pp1nghalo you can do it! If I can do it, you can do it!!

Mom to 8 ~ Adelyn Grace arrived July 8, 2010!
I felt that way with the first shake. You are making them with milk and no****er right? If you shake/blend them with ice they are thicker. The more you shake the less gritty. Also I thought they were horrible and wished I could buy the cheaper store bought ones. Guess what I found, the ones from BetterMD are BETTER!
The other thing is if you can't take the smell put them in a water bottle/cup with a lid. That way you don't smell them and it helps the taste. I learned that trick from the support groups pre-op. I didn't do it after the first few days. After day 5 I was kind of numb to it and just took what I was suppose when I was suppose too and than it was over
From this board I learned another trick and went out and bought the SF coffee syrups. I got them from Wal-mart and Sam's Club.
I hope this helps some. You can make it!!!

Yep, that kit was pretty gross, huh? Here are a few things to make life easier:
* For the protein shakes .... I would put my milk in the freezer about 30-45 minutes before I mixed the shake. That'd give me ice cold milk with little ice crystals. Make it more milkshake-like.
* The shakes shouldn't be gritty. Mix them in a blender if you need to. Or let them sit for a few minutes after you mix it so it will fully dissolve.
* If the smell is too bad for you, put it in a sippy cup or small-mouthed bottle. Or just plug your nose. Treat it like medicine if you must.
* I totally gave up on the soups and switched to just regular broth instead. But someone mentioned the other day that when you mix those soup packets with broth it tastes a lot better.
* Don't skip the fiber drinks. These are essential!
The first 4 days seriously suck. Then something happens on the 5th day when you turn a corner and suddenly realize that you CAN do this and surprisingly you're not hungry.
I lost 15 pounds on that liquid diet. It was worth every single horrifying minute. It actually gets better once you can use your own protein drinks and experiment with recipes.
