Hi All,
I have an ear infection and have to take an antibiotic.  They gave me Cipro 500mg, but I think that's what is causing me to have diareah.  Anyone no of an antibiotic that works well for us WLS folks?  Thanks, Theresa

I'm on Levaquin right now and I'm not having any problems.  I'm a big baby and made them give to me in liquid form, it doesn't taste to great, but it's only once a day, so I can handle it.

Good luck,
Edie

I don't know if there is one.... I was just on Amoxicillin and had some issues with that too... I have also been on a Z-pack but that causes slight constipation.

I hope you get better soon.

Hi Theresa,
Sorry about your ear infection, I've had them and they hurt.....
Eat some yogurt. Yogurt helps restore the normal flora of the intestine that the antibiotic wipes out. This will help alleviate the diarrhea......

I had to hit the yogurt for the same reason.  I have to get more activia or greek yogurt as I didn't have any issues while I was on it.

A common side effect of any antibiotic is diarrhea gastric bypass or not.  There are many different types of antibiotics and they are not all used to treat the same kind of infection.  An antibiotic that works well for one gastric bypass patient's type of infection might not work well against your infection so comparing antibiotic success stories is rather moot.  I am however surprised that you were not given antibiotic ear drops.  This might be an option if the cipro is bothing you too much.
