I just got my appointment for the Consultation at Hurley's Weight loss clinic. I'm really new to this I was kind of wondering if anyone new what to expect.
Not sure how it will go because I have care source a type of medicaid. I also haven't go the co-morbidities to go along with it all. I have osteoarthritis and Gerd, but weigh 342 lbs. and am 5'5" tall.
Anyone have any advice?

Every insurance has different requirements to qualify for surgery. You have a BMI of 57.9, that alone should qualify you.  Your gerd is a comorbidity (at least it was for my ins co), I'm not sure of the osteoarthritis.  You can call the member services department at the insurance company, they should be able to send you a list of the requirements.

Hurley will tell you what they require pre op.  I'm sure there are other Hurley patients who can tell you what they will have in store for you.

Stick around here, read, ask questions.....learn as much as you can.  Make sure this is a decision you can stick with for the rest of your life.  This is a life changing decision.  It is the best decision I've ever made, and don't regret it at all.

Good luck,

Edie

I went thru Hurley!   Because of my insurance I went thru the program backward.  I called Hurley to make an appointment.  The person I talked to was absolutely wonderful.  As soon as I told her which insurance I had she told me step by step what I had to do before I could make an appointment.  They even dealt with my PCP to make sure they had everything submitted in the right order at the right time.

I had to have everything done before my consult with the surgeon.

I talked to my doctor about the surgery and she set me up for an appointment at Hurley. Before the consultation appointment could be made they had to have a prior authorization from my insurance company. Its caresource through Medicaid. As soon as they got my authorization my appointment date was set up.

I know I will probally have a difficult time getting approved because I don't have the 5 years of medical records that I was told they require. There was a couple years that I did not even go to the doctor at all. I wonder if that will matter.
