I am so bummed out. I have been rejected for a consultation for bariatric surgery because my BMI isn't 43.0 and I haven't been on a hospital weight loss based program. I go to WW but I guess that isn't enough. So geez what do I do now. Are they telling me that I should gain more weight so my BMI is within their standards and then go and get on a weight loss hospital program? My doctor did warn me it is very hard to be approved.

Is this from your insurance or the surgery center.  My insurance and center require 40bmi or 35 with 2 comorbids.

I didn't have trouble getting but many here have,  It is different from insurance to insurance.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

What type of insurance do you have?  Did your insurance company reject you?  I have HAP and their requirements are also 40.0 or 35 with two co-morbidities.  Do you have any co-morbidities?  Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, acid reflux?
It is what it is.

I used my Weigh****chers weigh-in records as proof of diet.  Will your doctor say that while you were going to WW you were also being followed in his office?

I have NEVER heard of being rejected for a consultation.  Either 40 BMI or 35 BMI with 2 co-morbids.

I was denied the first time because my BMI was not 40.  I got so upset that I gained 5 lbs (not on purpose) and did qualifiy.  Then HAP (a typical HMO - Hellish Meanies Organization) said they would pay if I passed a psych test, which I failed.  Now how in the hell do you fail a psych test?

I had to appeal to the state and the state overturned HAP's decision to deny me.

I had proof up the kazoo with diets, Weight W@tcher charts and other stuff.
