looking for surgeon in or around port huron

Does anyone know of a docor close to port huron michigan that takes medicaid for gatric bypass/lapband? Also what are the conditions? is it just diabetes, high blod pressure and sleep apnea?

Hi Anne,

The Second Thread on the Mich forum, the Obesity Help Staff one, has a list of Michigan Medicare/Medicaid doctors.  Looks like you may have to drive.  But the St John Oakland/Dr. Katz will probably be the closest to you.  You would just take 94w to 696w to DeQuindre Rd.  Its right off the freeway pretty much.  As far as co-morbitities, you need to call the 800 number on the back of your card to see what the criteria is for being covered for WLS.  Or, if you attend the free seminar from dr. katz, maybe his staff can check it out for you?

Isn't Dr. Scheutnik (sp) out that way?

 There is a lap-band clinic @ Port Huron Hospital.  I actually know nothing about it (even though I live in Port Huron).    They only do lap-band and I personally question any office that will only perform one type of WLS.
There are several clinics in the metro detroit area.  I'd highly recommend Dr Kerry Kole down at St Johns, Oakland.  It's about a 45 minute drive and as long as you avoid rush hour it's not bad. (248) 967-7326

I don't have medicaid, but I have talked to patients at Hurley that have it and have surgery.  I'd give them a call.  Just take I-69 <1 hour.  Traffic is never as bad as heading to Detroit

Just give them a call they have a wonderful Insurance person that will tell you exactly how it is.  She was a God send for me going thru the red-tape!
