Change to BCBS of Mi
Hello All, I was just wondering if anybody else heard of changes to BCBS of Michigan ppo policy on bariatric surgery. My doctors office mentioned something about a change last week, but didnt tell me what. Ill have to wait to find out until my first appointment. I called the insurance company and they wouldnt tell me anything! Anybody got any news?
i also have bcbs of mich and i called hurley today to find out if they received my last forms they were waiting on and she said yes they did but it would be least 2 weeks before i could get my forms submitted to insurance because bcbs had changed alot of rules to there policy and that it was way easier to get approval from them now
Im glad to hear that. I thought i must have misunderstood her. Everyone acts like im crazy when i said that they changes for the good. I cant wait to find out what it is. All the insurance company told me was that i needed to have my deductible met and they would cover 100 percent of the surgery. But they wouldnt tell me the criteria i need to meet.
Here are the changes.
1. They no longer require the 6 months supervised diet. Your doctor just has to provide documentation that you have tried to lose weight by a supervised diet. This can be through them, weigh****chers, tops, e
2. They no longer require the patient be between 18 and 60.
3. They are no longer doing ANY preauthorizations, even for people who do not meet the medical critera. The doctors are responsible for determining if the patient meets the critera. If they feel the patient meets the critera, then they will do the surgery and submit all the documentation after the surgery.
Those are the 3 basic changes.
