Good Thursday Morning to all my fellow Michiganders.
It's Maundy Thursday and Happy Passover!
What's brewing this morning in your mug? Decaf and black is my standard and it sure is good......
Looks like we're gearing for a grand spring holiday weekend..
QOTD: What's going on in your house this weekend? What sort of traditions do you have in your household over Easter/Passover?
I am cooking for the crew for a late Easter dinner. Both my husband and daughter work Sunday, so it will be a late dinner. I have a tradition of getting an Easter lily every year and this year is no different. I love the fragrance. I also started a new tradition of an Easter tree. I found hand painted, blown Easter eggs (at a consignment store) which I hung from a branch. It is a centerpiece in my living room.
Have a good Thursday!

Good Morning Deb and everyone.
I am drinking Vitamin Water lemonade.  Yum.  Today is like Friday here, since we're off tomorrow.

Easter plans-Well, this weekend is MY Easter, and next week is my DH's Easter, since they are Russian Orthodox.  For my family, we used to color and hide eggs and go to Grandma's house for dinner.  Now, I just get my kids a little treat and that's about it.  We're going to visit my sister in Battle Creek on Friday and her kids are little, so we'll probably hunt for eggs.  Next week, DH's family has midnight mass on Saturday, the blessing of the Easter basket, and a big meal on Sunday.  His grandmother used to make those really ornate Ukranian eggs, but she passed away and no one carried on the tradition.

I'm going to get to work....the sooner I get started, the sooner the long weekend starts!!!

Have a good day!

Ummmm special isn't the word I would use.
It's just bacon and sausage that was blessed at church and his mom's warm, full sugar jello (even tho 4 family members have had WLS ) and lots of bread.  That's about it.  Ick.
You'd like Christmas more.....saurkraut soup, pea soup, cabbage rolls, whisky with garlic in it.....

What do you do with the Whiskey and garlic?  My husbands family is Russian/Ukranian and we've never had that.  His Grandmother used to fix dinner that consisted of everything for every holiday.  have you heard of Schav?  It's a soup she made with greens that were sort of sour.  Really yummy cuz it had sour cream in it too.  Her borscht and 'liver buns' were a favorite of the family, but I didn't like the liver buns, only the bread.  My hubby now says my golabki (stuffed cabbage rolls) are better than grandma's.  What a nice compliment.  We used to make the Ukranian eggs, but that has definately fallen by the wayside.  A lot of work, but beautiful.

At Christmas Eve dinner you chew up a clove of garlic and chase it with a shot of whiskey.  Something to do with health and prosperity.
I haven't heard of Schav....is it for Christmas?  Their Christmas Eve dinner is meat and dairy free, so they only have the soups with veggies.

And yes, for Christmas it is holupchi, the meatless kind.  Then for Easter I think they do make it with meat.

If you're bored and want to read about it, here is a link with some typical stuff:

Very interesting website.  Thank you.  We never had the custard cheesy stuff, but had a lot of the others.  Now I'm getting hungry.
