I'm a newbie from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Dr. Wayne English will be performing my surgery. I'm not going to lie I'm a bit scared. I don't have a date set yet. I do have my psych evaluation scheduled for May 11th, and I'm waiting to have my multidisciplinary day scheduled. I have lots more reading and learning to do. I'm very open to all advice.

I'm going to have a Roux-en-Y. It will be done laparscopically done unless of course there are complications then it will be an open surgery. Which I pray for so complications. I'm wondering if anyone has any reviews on Dr. English and his staff? I'm just going to be blunt. Has he lost anyone during or after surgery? When I went for my education day he and his staff were great. I won't be having my surgery as soon as I'd like but it's worth the wait.

I came right out and asked the Dr outright how many patients he had "lost".  He seemed to be taken back by the question and said "none".  I said "good - lets keep it that way".  You should be able to ask the Dr ANY questions you have.  Its your every right to.

Do you mean you WANT complications?  That's the way I read your post... and if you do, why is that?

Its normal to be a bit scared, but like you were already told, do your research and read, read, read.  This site is a great place to learn all about it.  Stay off the forums where people ***** and complain about wishing they never had it...

hi yoop!  it is great you are scared......being scared can help you make great decisions for yourself!  Make sure to do your homework (sounds like you already have a great start!)---ask all the questions you want.  Everyone will be eager to help you find your answers!  Remember they are your answers----people can give their perspectives and then you will decide what is the best fit for you!  Good Luck and welcome!

Welcome newbie from the Upper Peninsula!  I'm pretty sure we all were a bit scared, at least I was.  I have a question for you, what is a multidisciplinary day?   I find it interesting all the different things people have to do from surgeon to surgeon.

I was just banded on 2/25 so I'm here learing too.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

Here are the steps for surgery. http://www.mgh.org/weight/surgery_steps.html It's nice that people are so nice and willing to help. I'm going to need all the help I can get. I'm worried more about after surgery. First two weeks are liquid diet, and then pureed food. Does that another words mean baby food?

Hi Amanda,
I'm a product of two yoopers and am a yooper wanna be.  I haven't had my surgery yet, but have been on this forum for three months now.  It's great and you will learn a lot.  Ask any question and someone will have an answer for you.  I had to go for an orientation/education class where they gave us each a three ring binder full of information.  I haven't gotten through the entire package yet.
It's hard to give advise except read all you can and ask as many questions as you can think of.
Good luck and welcome aboard.

Anyone know how long it will be before my posts don't need approval?
